Dr. Perry Bush, professor of history at Bluffton University, will present a program Thursday, Sept. 13, on his recently published book, "Rust Belt Resistance: How a Small Community Took on Big Oil and Won."
Beginning with refreshments at 3:45 p.m., the event is free and open to the public in the Musselman Library Reading Room on the Bluffton campus. Bush will sign copies of his book, which will be available for purchase.
Dr. James M. Harder, president of Bluffton University, will present the annual President's Forum at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, in Founders Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
As the 2012-13 academic year gets under way, Harder will highlight current initiatives at Bluffton, including new program development and facilities improvements. He will also reflect on Bluffton's civic engagement program theme for this year, "Virtual Living: Technology's Impact on Culture and Learning."
Bluffton High School marching band alumni performed Friday night during the pre-game of the BHS versus Carey football game. This is the third-ever performance of the alumni. Nearly 25 members performed four numbers.
Vera E. Burkholder, 97, of Bluffton died at 8:55 a.m. Aug. 31, 2012, at Richland Manor, Bluffton. She was born June 28, 1915, in Orange Township to Samuel and Matilda Kiene Burkholder.
She was a first grade teacher at Allen East School from 1963 to 1982. She had also worked at Triplett Corp., Bluffton for 20 years.
