Lawrence Matthews was recently named manager of Mennonite Mutual Aid Society, according to Jane Weaver, MMAS board chairperson. In this role, Matthews will manage the day-to-day operations of the Bluffton-based insurance company. Paul King continues as president of the company.
Weaver said that the board is pleased to make the announcement. Matthews brings 30 years of administrative experience to the job. He joined the company as an agent in March and he will continue to serve clients in that role. The decision to name Matthews as manager is based on the company's desire to grow.
Children's literature specialist presents "best books" at Bluffton University
Floyd C. Dickman, a children's literature specialist, will present "Outstanding Picture Books of 2009" at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, in the Kreider Room in Marbeck Center.
As part of Bluffton University's Pathways scholars-in-residence program, three members of Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) will be on campus Nov. 10-12. The three members include Sylvia Morrison, Sandra Milena Rincon and Tarek Abuata. During their visit, they will be visiting students and classes, as well as speaking during forum on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m.
Bluffton University will present an art exhibit "In the Beginning: The Creative Process Revealed," Monday, Nov. 9, through Friday, Dec. 18, in the Grace Albrecht Gallery of Sauder Visual Arts Center. The exhibit will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and is free and open to the public.
luffton professor discusses 'just war' at Friday Colloquium
Rudi Kauffman, assistant professor of restorative justice, will present "Cursed are the Just Warmakers," at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, in Stutzman Lecture Hall in Centennial Hall, as part of Bluffton University's Friday Colloquium Series. The event is free and open to the public.
Bluffton University recently announced the 2010 inductees into the Bluffton University Athletics Hall of Fame. The 2010 inductees include Al Beitler '76, Kimberly (Spiegel '93) Mutchler and Emil Knorr '57. The 1967 baseball team will also be inducted. I have a friend who has been through a very tough year. His mother and stepfather died within days of each other. Less than a month later his house burned and was a total loss. He works crazy bad hours - 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. with three days on and two days off, seven days a week.

The parade forms at 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 28, at The Centre parking lot, 601 N. Main St. The parade starts at 5 p.m. The parade route goes from The Centre to College Avenue.
