Here's one way to warm up on a cold January night in Bluffton. The Columbus-based Mariachi Guadalajara band will perform at Tu Pueblo Mexican Restaurant from 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 23.

The band has appeared several times at Tu Pueblo, the most recent visit being in November.

Shortly after Dennis Gallant, Bluffton mayor, announced 2014 council committee assignments, one of those committees set its calendar in motion.

Council’s sidewalk review board, not even an official council board, decided to organize for the year. The board includes council members Mitch Kingsley and Joe Sehlhorst along with Jason Granger, a citizen appointment.

American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) tax aide will be offered at the Bluffton Senior Citizen’s Center on Thursdays starting at 9 a.m. Feb. 6 through April 3, according to Tonya Meyer, center director.

AARP volunteers specialize in helping taxpayers with low and moderate-income, with special attention to those aged 60 and older. This service is free but an appointment is required and may be made by calling 419-358-8971 or stop by the Bluffton Senior Center.

Bluffton University honored 23 faculty and staff members for their years of service at the university’s annual recognition dinner on Jan. 19. The honorees have been at Bluffton for five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years.

Each year, the Bluffton Elementary PTO holds a Bakery Bingo fundraiser. The family event is well-attended by Bluffton families and community members. This year it is scheduled for February 1st, 2014.

Everett Collier is co-staring in a Fort Wayne, Indiana, production of "Driving Miss Daisy." 

The first performances were this past weekend. The next performances are Friday and Saturday, Jan. 24-25, at First Presbyterian Theatre, 300 W. Wayne St., Ft. Wayne.

Bluffton University students who studied off campus last fall semester will relate their experiences during forums at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, in Founders Hall. The forums are free and open to the public.

Dan and Edna Dalke, Inman, Kan., formerly of Bluffton, will celebrate their 71st wedding anniversary on Jan. 22. Rev. Dalke is a former pastor of Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton.

Rev. Dalke provided the following information about the couple's wedding:

"On Jan. 22, one day after the great blizzard of 1943 only one half of the invited and expected guests were able to assemble at the country church for the wedding of Edna Elizabeth Franz and Dan U. Dalke. The church was (still is) 20 miles from the nearest town.
