BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton University junior center Thayne Recker (Arlington) set the HCAC single-game scoring record in the Beavers’ 103-102 triple overtime win over Hanover on Saturday and he has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season.

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Trey Everett (Sidney/Fairlawn) had a record-setting performance in the high jump at the SPIRE Midwest Open Saturday and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. 

It was Onalee Shepler week at Southgate Lanes Bowling Alley, Bluffton. Shepler had the women’s high game score of 255 , the third highest score at 217 and the women’s high series at 659.

John Peterman and Dan Moorman tied at 286 for the men’s highest game score. Bob Edwards’ 750 was the men’s high series score.

PrimeTimers have cancelled its noon Tuesday, Feb. 3, gathering planned at St. John Mennointe Church.

 

 

The Bluffton Scrap Artists recently applied for and were selected to receive a $500 grant from Ohio Quilts.

The grant will help cover the costs associated with making soldier quilts for wounded men and women in the U.S. armed forces. There will be an open sew day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, in the Patio Room at Maple Crest Senior Living Center.

Bluffton’s 2014 EMS runs and patient transports were down in 2014 compared to previous years, according to Jan Basinger, EMS chief.

In 2014 Bluffton EMS had 429 runs and 299 transports. That is 10 runs lower than last year and 27 transports lower than last year. A nine-year chart attachment to this story shows runs from 2006 to 2014.

Book ReViews will hold a book discussion group from 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, beginning February 12. Because of limited space, the group is open to the first eight women who register. The first book to be discussed will be "One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are" by New York Times bestselling author, Ann Voskamp.

The American Red Cross of Hancock County is helping a Findlay family and a Mt. Cory family following fires in their homes.

A Findlay family of four received assistance for clothing and seasonal clothing and comfort kits with personal hygiene items following the fire in their Elm St. home on Thursday evening.   Red Cross Disaster Responders Bill Davis and Karl Gingrich responded to the call for help.
