Lots of events are planned in April at the Bluffton Elementary School. The big news in third through fifth grade involves testing.

Third grade students will take the Reading Ohio Achievement Assessment on April 21.  New state “End of the Year” exams will be given on April 27 in English/Language Arts for grades 4-5.

The exhibit features the work of a dozen Iraqi artists who were trained in Baghdad and had active professional careers until the violence following the 2003 invasion forced them to flee.

The paintings will be on exhibit at the Sauder Visual Arts Center daily from 1 to 3 p.m. and will be on sale by silent auction with final bids on Sunday, May 3, at noon.

The Village of Bluffton’s insurance committee will be meeting on Monday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m.

Spring is here and that means the end of the school year is quickly approaching.

The PTO committee has been busy discussing and working on many projects we want to complete before the end of the school year.

We will be providing $400 for each grade level (K through 5th) to purchase new accelerated reader books; a total of $2400.

We will be purchasing three SmartBoards, along with USB cables, for three of the third grade classrooms.  One classroom was completed previously.  The cost will be around $4758.

Here are some recollections about the April 11, 1965, Palm Sunday tornado from Icon viewer and former Bluffton resident, Anne McGinnis Parker.

1965 PALM SUNDAY TORNADO

Bluffton area was declared a disaster area by the federal government. Unfortunately, the declaration was not accompanied by funds. Mutual Insurance companies were left bankrupt by the many claims. A small sum from the State of Ohio was far from enough to repair the wide-spread damage.
