Bluffton’s second-ever National Night Out in one word: “Wow!”

The Bluffton Police Department in conjunction with the Pandora Police Department with assistance from Bluffton, Beaverdam and Pandora fire and EMS departments threw a party at the Bluffton Communtiy Swimming Pool on Aug. 4.

The following City of Findlay railroad crossing closures will effect local firms, workforce and trucking companies in August.

CSX Railroad Crossing Closures:
• Hancock County Road 99 railroad crossing will be closed for three weeks until August 24 for repairs. The crossing is located south of the Whirlpool plant between Hancock County 220/North Main Street and Distribution Drive
• Hancock County Road 215 and 216 are expected to reopen very soon

Larry and Ellen Core will be celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on
Saturday, August 8. A small family gathering is planned for the evening of
August 8th. They also took a family vacation to Northern California in early July.

Larry and Ellen were married August 8, 1965 at St. John's United Church of
Christ, Bluffton, by Rev. Ralph Quellhorst.

They have two daughters, Karen Core of San Mateo, CA and Kathy (Tim) Soper of
Bluffton. They also have three grandchildren, Madison, Mason and Carson Soper.

Beaverdam's Summer Festival, sponsored by the Beaverdam Fire and EMS, takes place Saturday, Aug. 8, in downtown Beaverdam, according to Nick Nowlan.

The festival includes two live bands, free inflatable games for kids, homemade food and six grand prizes.

This year’s band will be Kevin Ash Band followed by That Lousy Band.

The newly-appointed Shannon Cemetery Commission’s initial meeting is at 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 6, in the first floor dining room of Maple Crest, just off Augsburger Road.

Mayor Judy Augsburger announced at Monday’s council meeting that Nathan Ulrey will chair the commission. She named the commission members in July.

Other members are John Murray, Evan Skilliter, Fred Rodabaugh, Bob Amstutz, Samuel Diller, Richard Boehr, Harriett Moyer, Jesse Blackburn, David Steiner and the mayor. Paula Scott, a non-voting member, is the commission recorder.

Area fifth and sixth grade girls are tuning up their volleyball skills this week. Bluffton Family Recreation holds a three-day camp. The camp is for youth who plan to play on a school team.

• on the east side of BFR and
• on the east side of the Buckeye.

• Spring Street will be blocked off at Riley Street.
• No parking is permitted on Snider Road.

S.B. 243 enacted a one-time sales tax holiday to occur only in 2015. The holiday starts on Friday, Aug. 7, and ends on Sunday, Aug. 9.

During the holiday, the following items are exempt from sales and use tax:
•An item of clothing priced at $75 or less
•An item of school supplies priced at $20 or less; and
•An item of school instructional material priced at $20 or less.

Items used in a trade or business are not exempt under the sales tax holiday.
