The Bluffton Hospital Gift Shop is now accepting credit cards. The Gift Shop is located inside the new Emergency Department entrance of the hospital. Gift Shop hours are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
 
The Gift Shop offers gift items for every occasion, including baby gifts, as well as jewelry, greeting cards and Dietsch’s candy. All proceeds benefit Bluffton Hospital. 

The Board of Trustees of Bluffton Public Library will hold its annual organizational meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, at 6:30 p.m.  The purpose of the meeting is to elect officers, set the 2016 meeting schedule and approve temporary authorizations for 2016. 

 

Warm up with a cup of hot tea on any Tuesday in January at Bluffton Public Library during regular morning hours.  During these Hot Tea Tuesdays, free hot tea and other light refreshments will be available for browsing patrons from 10am-2pm.    
Also on Tuesdays, area teens and tweens (6th grade and up) are invited to Chill Zone.  Come participate in crafts, play games, snack, and talk every Tuesday in January at 3:30pm.

Alec Yoder, grandson of Alan and Diann Yoder, Bluffton, launched his gymnastics career at Ohio State University on Dec. 21 leading the Grey team to a win at the Scarlet and Gray Intrasquad. The OSU freshman won the all-around title.

Alec is the son Mike and Rebecca Yoder of Indianapolis. Mike is a Bluffton HS grad. Details follow:

 The Gray team defeated the Scarlet team, 269.300-265.300, earning its fourth win in the exhibition contest in the last five seasons. The Top-3 scores per team on each apparatus counted toward the final results.

Marcine Mae Geiger, 81, died Dec. 21, 2015, at 9:25 p.m. at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.  Marcine was born Feb. 27, 1934, in Allen County, Ohio, to Walter and Louella (Augsburger) Welty who preceded him in death. On Feb. 24, 1953, she married Weldon Geiger who survives.

Marcine held a certification as a MTNA through the Ohio Music Teachers Association.  She taught private piano lessons in her home for over 40 years. 

Bluffton council passed its 2016 annual appropriations during its final meeting of 2015 on Dec. 21.

The general fund has anticipated revenues of $2.4 million and anticipated operating expenses of $1.7 million. Following a $635,000 transfer of funds that took place on Monday that leaves a carryover of approximately $74,909, according to Nancy Kindle, village fiscal officer.

The 2016 annual appropriations are very similiar to 2015 she said.

 

 

Kaity King, Bluffton High School senior, is the December BHS student of the month. The daughter of Amy King and Alan King, Kaity carries a 3.874 grade point average.

Kaity is a member of the FCCLA (Family, Career, & Community Leading America) and is a cheerleader at Bluffton High School. She also cheers for All Star Cheerleading in Lima.

In her spare time she likes to quilt, help people, cheer and tumble.

If a wedding anniversary cake is in order, it will have 75 candles.

Maple Crest Senior Living Village’s oldest married couple, Luther and Geneva Shetler, celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary on Dec. 22.

It was on Dec. 22, 1940, Luther, then 23, and Geneva, 21, were married at the Eighth Street Mennonite Church, Goshen, Ind. 

They met at Goshen College when Luther was a junior and Geneva a freshman.  Luther recalls that he was aware of a beautiful blond girl on campus, but that he had no reason to be connected with her group of friends.
