Weldon C. Geiger, 85, died July 16, 2016, at 11:40 a.m. at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.  Weldon was born March 6, 1931, in Bluffton to the late Pearl and Burdella (Amstutz) Geiger.  On Feb. 24, 1953 he married Marcine Welty Geiger who preceded him in death on Dec. 21, 2015.

Note: The Icon acquired a manuscript titled “A Brief History of Bluffton’s Industrial Developments.” This publication was prepared by the classes in Marketing and Small Business Administration from Bluffton College, under the director of Dr. Howard Raid. Publication date is May 1959. We’ve updated some current addresses so viewers may identify location.

Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 8375 Phillips Road, Bluffton, will hold an ice cream social Friday, July 22, at the church from 4 to 7 p.m.

The menu includes chicken or sloppy joes sandwiches, chicken noodles, baked beans, a variety of salads, pies, and cakes, plus ice cream and beverages. Tickets are $8 for adults and childen 10 and under $4.

Family night movies

Four movies remain on the church summer schedule on Sundays July 17, July 31, Aug. 14 and Aug. 28.

On Friday afternoon, June 17,  the Bluffton Lions Club put on the 49th Festival of Wheels and Cruise-in. We strive to make it a better show each year. It takes a lot of volunteers to make it a success.

The weather has a lot to do with it, but the volunteers are the main factor. The Bluffton Lions are very grateful to all the following people who helped with our Festival of Wheels.

A coffeehouse variety show takes place from 4:30-7:30 p.m., on Sunday, July 24, First Mennonite Church Fellowship Hall. 

This “BlauRock Café” will include poetry, music, humor and magic, plus a summer meal featuring local sweet corn. 

Most of the performers are local, but we will also feature a guest trio of Ethan Setiawan, Sadie Gustafson-Zook and Jacob Warren.  

The Ada VFW Post 9381 will expand its car show this year after a successful first year. This year’s show is Saturday afternoon, July 16, at the VFW Post, 2147 State Route 235, north of Ada.

Last year's event drew 40 cars and 15 motorcycles.

New this year will be a truck category.

Registration of $10 is from 2 to 4 p.m. Judging is from 4 to 6 p.m. and awards are presented at 6:30 p.m.

Trophies will be awarded for car, bike and truck categories, best of show, people's choice award, participant's award, mayor's choice award.

Here's your invitation to come out to the Bluffton swimming pool on Saturday for some music, and hamburgers off the grill while you watch the bikers come back from their Rides to Remember bike ride.

The Dough Hook will be grilling hamburgers and MooOink burgers on the grill and will offer a selection side dishes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the pool.
