Lots of other programs on the calendar

Bluffton Senior Citizens will celebrate Irene Baumgartner’s 90th birthday during the Monday, Aug 14, senior monthly dinner meeting. Baumgartner turns 90 in August and will receive a life membership in the association.

Meanwhile, Larry Cress from Wheelhouse, a Christian Bicycle Cooperative in Lima, will present the evening program on the group’s mission. Ted’s Market will cater the meal. Tickets are $7.50 and must be purchased by Aug. 9. The program starts at 6 p.m. in the Center, 132 N. Main St.

Maple Crest elders share lots of hobbies and talent in a show

Elders of Maple Crest Senior Living Village shared their hobbies on July 27. Jamie Nygaard was there and shares photos of the show. At least 17 elders displayed hobbies ranging from carved art to toy farm equipment. ose included:

Summer conditioning programs and 10 days of coaching will conclude this weekend as the first official day of practice for OHSAA fall sports arrives next week. Football practice begins Monday, while all other fall sports may begin practice on Tuesday.
 
Schools are reminded of OHSAA heat regulations and the practice guidelines specific to football contact (please see below).
 

Scoreboard, spirit wear and custom apparel store, 111 N. Main St., Bluffton, is offering a Bluffton Bucs midget football spirit pack, according to Natalie Mueller of the store.

The spirit pack includes different items including tee shirts, long-sleeve shirts, duffel bags, hoodies and men’s and women’s shirt sleeve shirts.

An attachment at the bottom of this story is an order form for spirit wear that is available.

Blanchard Valley Hospital has been recognized by U.S News and World Report as a high performing hospital for knee replacements. Blanchard Valley Hospital also holds high performing ratings in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, heart failure and hip replacement.

Three homes in the Bluffton area were featured, showcasing homes in the Bluffton area that emphasize energy efficiency and sustainable building.

The three tour stops included:
• a 1970s home with solar PV and battery backup,
• a new home with monopole PV arrays, and
• a home with earth berm, PV solar and passive solar design.

The saga of the loose chicken continues.

He now has a name: Richard the Rooster.

He can be found in the 500 block of South Johnson Street, Ada.

About 10 days ago, the rooster was first spotted on East Lehr Avenue. People took pictures of him, watched his antics, even called the police to try to catch the stray.

GoFundMe drive reaches goal for purchase of new family van to assist Owen

Greg’s Pharmacy is throwing a party for Bluffton’s small-town hero Owen Weaver and you are invited.

The event is from noon to 3 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 3, in the village parking lot behind Greg’s. The Weaver family will attend from noon to 1:30 p.m.

This summer marked the success of a GoFundMe drive that generated enough money to purchase a new van for the Weaver family.

It allows Owen to more easily go to doctor appointments at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus, and to local activities.

Book Lovers’ Day is on Aug. 9. Help us create a display of books you love. Let us know one or two of your favorite books prior to the day and check out the display for other community favorites.

Dulcimers @ the Library continues on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. Meetings will take place in the Richland Room in the library’s lower level.
