The Pirates had 2 NWC titles in 2017-18

ENTIRE ANNUAL STANDINGS AT BOTTOM OF STORY -

Spencerville won the Northwest Conference 2017-18 “Don Bachman Award of Excellence," as Bluffton came in a very close third.

 Bluffton won last year's award.

This is the first time Spencerville has accomplished this feat since the establishment of the award in 2005.  This award recognizes the school in the conference that exhibits the highest level of consistent excellence in conference-sponsored sports and scholastic bowl competition each school year.

LACROSSE, Wis. - The 2018 Bluffton University track and field season ended on a high note in La Crosse, Wisconsin on Saturday, May 26 at the NCAA National Track & Field Championship meet. Gabe Makin (Elida) capped a stellar freshman campaign with an All-American performance in the men’s pole vault.

It's the community of Bluffton's oldest annual tradition - Blufton High School commencement. This year was the 137th annual "beginning," for students with last names of A to W.

The Icon provides viewers with photos of commmencement, taken by Jamie Nygaard, plus a list of the grads with their future plans.

Those plans range from enrolling in Bluffton University, Ohio State University, Texas A&M, Purdue, LeTourneau University and more.

One graduate is heading to the U.S. Army, some have already found positions in the workforce, and others are undecided.

Bluffton Ride to Remember and pathways keep growing

How do you measure grassroots support for Bluffton's pathway project?
Check out the 4th annual Bluffton Ride to Remember, a fundraiser led by the Bluffton Lions Foundation, supported by Bluffton Family Recreation, and sponsored by 12 additional organizations.
 
More than 30 volunteers are on board for July 14 event. And each volunteer has their own take on what makes the effort worthwhile:
 
• "The volunteers are great fun and hard working."

Community Assistance Program lists June and July pantry needs

The Bluffton Food Pantry's supplies are running a bit low and could use some reinforcements, according to Ed Yeager, board president of the Bluffton Community Assistance Program.

Item may be delivered to St. John’s United Church of Christ.

He said that the recent post office collection was perfectly timed and there were donations from Bluffton High School’s Student Senate as well to keep us well supplied for several client visits.  There are some needs for the next couple of months.

More than 100 women of Maple Crest and their guests enjoyed beverages and dessert at the annual Ladies’ Tea on Thursday, May 17.  Held in the Maple Crest patio room, the Tea marks the arrival of spring and warmer weather.

According to Debbie Mohr, activities coordinator, singer Lauren Brooke provided the entertainment with several folk songs and Irish Celtic pieces, and seven volunteers served the guests.  Main decorators were volunteers Janette Reineke, Sandy Schroll and Marilyn Shelly.

Traditional Memorial Day in Bluffton on Monday

Bluffton will observe Memorial Day with traditional events on Monday, May 28.

The Bluffton American Legion Post 382 will hold a parade from the town hall to Maple Grove Cemetery. Line up is 9:15 a.m. and the parade starts at 9:30 a.m.

A 10 a.m. ceremony takes place at 10 a.m. Lt. Ryan Benroth, a 2005 Bluffton High School graduate and 2012 U.S. Naval Academy graduate, is the speaker.
