Bluffton High School girls' basketball team will face Pandora-Gilboa in the opening round of the sectional tourney. The game is at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Allen East.

In the past seven days residents have experienced a temperature range of nearly 70 degrees, from minus 12 degrees on Jan. 30 to 56 degrees on Feb. 3 and 4.

From 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 13

The Bluffton First United Methodist Church youth fundraiser spaghetti dinner takes place next week at the church.

The dinner has a Valentine’s Day theme and serving is in the church fellowship hall, from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 13.

Tickets are $7 each and are available now through Feb. 9 from youth in the church or in the church office.

The menu includes baked spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and a beverage.

Desserts will be available for an additional donation. Carry-out and in-town (Bluffton) delivery is available.

Two new employees recently joined Spectrum Salon, according to Mandy Kinn, owner. They are from left, Kelsey Buettner and Iris Gutierrez.

Kelsey is a cosmetologist with a concentration on hair and nails. Iris is a cosmetologist with a concentration on nails and eyelash extensions.

Extensive feature on "how a cow becomes a football"

From Farm to Field, and Every Point Between: How a Cow Becomes a Football.

That’s the title of an extensive story in the Jan. 31 Sports Illustrated written by Kalyn Kehler. And, the story mentions the Wilson faculty in Ada, including photos of footballs being made.

The lead-in to the story states: “You’ve seen it snapped, thrown, kicked and spiked. But chances are you’ve never considered the origin story of an NFL ball – or how painstaking the process is to get every detail just right.”

Part of the global mental health movement

Bluffton University will host the #SameHere Sit-Down, an interactive event produced by the Global Mental Health Alliance: “We’re All A Little Crazy” from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10.

Held in Founders Hall, the event features opportunities for candid and revealing conversations with boxing champion Eric Kelly, DJ Archie Green and the founder of the #SameHere movement Eric Kussin.

And parent company purchases assets of M&R Redi-Mix, Pettisville

The Gerken Company of Napoleon has purchased the assets of M&R Redi-Mix, Inc. of Pettisville, Ohio. 

The purchase was effective Jan. 1, 2019. Gerken is known for its asphalt paving services and production and now adds concrete ready mix production to its  list of services.

Both Bluffton men’s and women’s baketball teams lost to Rose-Hulman on Saturday. Here is the women’s game. The men’s game is below.

The Bluffton University women's basketball team lost a hard fought, low-scoring game at Rose-Hulman, 45-37, on Saturday, Feb. 2. The setback dropped the Beavers to 7-14 on the year (5-9 HCAC). Rose-Hulman improved to 15-6 and is now 12-2 in the Heartland Conference.
