BLUFFTON, Ohio—Dr. Melissa Friesen, Mary Nord Ignat and Joseph Ignat Professor of Theatre and Communication at Bluffton, will present the Colloquium “When Talking is Tough: Image Theatre as a Catalyst for Engagement” at 4 p.m. on Feb. 22 in Centennial Hall’s Stutzman Lecture Hall.

Dads and girls just want to have fun

Yes, they danced the night away.

Nearly 90 dancers  – dads of all ages and daughter ranging from 3 to 12 (?) – hit the dance floor and never stopped on Saturday evening at Bluffton Family Recreation.

Dancers from Bluffton, Pandora, Lima, Jenera and elsewhere showed up with at the first-ever dad and daughter dance at BFR.

Winter school district newsletter on the Icon

Kindergarten registration, spring testing, an Ohio Cavern trip, and a spring musical are on the Bluffton school spring calendar.

Those events plus a review of the first half of the school year are part of the winter Bluffton school district newsletter, sent to residents of the school district last week.

The newsletter updates residents on the National Blue Ribbon Award received by the elementary school, provides a list of senior citizen breakfast programs this spring and includes school year-end dates.

Loretta Sue Wolf, 71, died Feb. 10, 2019, at St. Catherine's Manor in Findlay.

Loretta was born March 26, 1947, in Harlan County, Kentucky, to the late Leland and Willie (King) Aslinger.  She had previously been married to Thomas Wolf and he preceded her in death. 

Loretta was a homemaker. 

Former Bluffton resident Lois Lydia Sommer was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Pekin Ill., and died Jan. 31, 2019, in North Newton Kan. She graduated valedictorian of Pekin High School in 1940 and from Bluffton College in 1945 with a degree in home economics.

Bluffton High School boys' basketball team will play the winner of the Fairfield vs. Tinora game in the opening round of the boys' sectional tournament. That game is at 8 p.m., Friday, March 1, at Miller City.

RHAPSDY is a familiar Bluffton plate on a blue vehicle, driven by the Bluffton elementary music teacher, Alice Basinger. It's on a Ford Escape and is generally parked near the elementary building.

Bluffton schools have cancelled classes for today, Monday, Feb. 11, according to Greg Denecker, superintendent. The announcement was made on Ohio Alerts at 8 a.m.

The school reached its five calamity-day limit. A make-up day is set for Presidents' Day on Monday, Feb. 18.
