Bluffton Public Library hosts LEGO-building fun on Friday, June 21 from 1-3 p.m. in the lower level meeting room. Bring your own LEGOs or use the library's.

Open to all ages and no registration is required. 

Subject found in rural Bluffton and taken to St. Rita's Medical Center

A person idenitifed by Bluffton police as a potential suicidal risk was taken by Bluffton EMS to St. Rita's Medical Center for a psychological evaluation as a result of self-inflicted injuries.

The occurrence took place on Tuesday, June 18. Ryan Burkholder, Bluffton police chief provide the following information to the Icon:

"Police offiers and Allen County sheriff deputies responded to the area of the Bluffton University Nature Preserve for a suicidal subject.

Her role is to connect vulnerable children from around the world to local sponsors

As a volunteer for World Vision, a humanitarian aid, development and advocacy organization, Holly Metzger, a 2005 Bluffton University graduate, is living out the values instilled during her Bluffton education.

“The discussions we had in classes here, the cross-cultural experience and the whole Bluffton package just really encouraged my passion and drive to be part of something bigger,” said Metzger, now an enrollment counselor at Bluffton University.

BLUFFTON - The Bluffton summer swim team swept visiting West Ohio Aquatic League rival Ada on an overcast Monday evening.

Bluffton whipped the Ada boys 473-148, while the girls defeated the Alligator ladies 441-203.

Bluffton won the combined meet team going away, 914-351.

The Icon spotted TT 1954 on a black Honda CR-V in the parking lot of the Pandora Medical Center.

Bluffton Public Library invites you and your creativity to come make a craft for your pet (or make something to donate to an animal shelter) on Tuesday, June 25 from 6 to 7 p.m. in their lower level meeting room.

All materials are provided. This session is for children, ages eight and older (with adult supervision), and any adults.

Lynn R. Gilbert, 66, of Elida, died on June 16, 2019, at The Meadows of Ottawa.  He was born on Oct. 9, 1952, in Bluffton, Ohio, to the late Donald E. and Donna J. (Welch) Gilbert.  Lynn was married to Pamela K. Webb from 1972-1981.

Lynn had 31 years of service at Lima Ford Engine Plant. He worked 8 of those years at Cooper’s former Bowling Green plant. Lynn belonged to the URW, AFGM, IVOE and UAW.

Hilty Home resident recognized for 70 years of service in American Legion Harter Williams Post 536

World War II Marine veteran Louis Risser accepted a pin with tears in his eyes earlier this spring surrounded by friends and American Legion members recognizing him for his 70 years of service in American Legion Harter Williams Post 536 in Gilboa.

Risser, 91, received a pin from Post 536 Post Commander Roy Sutter, Sergeant at Arms Lennis Core and Post 536 member Paul Burkholder at Hilty Home in Pandora, where Risser has been a resident since October 2018.

He graduated from Pandora High School in 1945 and joined the Marines at age 18.

It's Shirley's Gourmet Popcorn Company's birthday party

Shirley's Gourmet Popcorn Co., Bluffton, celebrates Shirley's birthday on Saturday, June 22, with a day full of family-friendly events, according to Pete and Kim Suter.

Carnival games and buy-one-get-one specials highlight the event held downtown Bluffton, with 100 percent of sales being donated Lima Symphony Storytime program.

A Bluffton Relay Run/Walk for Hope 5-K Glow Run is set for Friday, June 21, at Bluffton Family Recreation.

The event is at BFR, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton, and takes place in conjunction with Bluffton’s Relay for Life event.

Registration starts at 9:30 p.m. and the race is at 10:30 p.m. A pre-registration form is attached below.

Day of the race registration is $25 for adults and $20 for youth. This includes shirts if they are still available. Registration is available online at www.bfronline.com/register.
