Interested in having breakfast with Santa?

The Bluffton High School junior class is bringing Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus to Bluffton on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Tickets are now on sale for the fundraiser held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the middle school cafetorium.

The event includes a light breakfast, games, crafts and the opportunity to have your photo taken with Mr. and Mrs. Santa.

Tickets may be purchased in the middle school office or from Angie at the village office in town hall. Tickets are $5. Proceeds go to the junior class post prom.

The weather of November 2019 carried several wide swings of highs and lows, according to Guy Verhoff, U.S. weather observer in Pandora.

Here’s some of the highlights:
Average November temperature: 35.9 degrees
Normal average November temperature: 41.5 degrees

Normal average November precipitation: 3.16 inches
November 2019 precipitation and snowfall: 5.2 inches snow, .78 inch precip.

Maximum November temperature: 57 degrees on Nov. 4
Minimum November temperature: 3 degrees on Nov. 13.

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) announced the Christopher M. Ragsdale Sportsmanship teams for the Fall 2019 season.

Activities for kids, including appearance of Santa Claus

The Pandora United Methodist Church will be hosting a free Community Meal on Wednesday, Dec. 11 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. The church is located at 108 E. Washington Street, Pandora. 

Santa Claus will be attending, and crafts, cookie decorating, and coloring pages will be available. 

The meal is provided by Riley Creek Pharmacy. The menu will be sloppy joe or shredded chicken sandwiches, cheesy potatoes, green beans, applesauce, cookie, hot chocolate and beverages. 

Eight Hochstettler cousins, descendants of Levi and Amanda Balmer Hochstettler (DJH6292) met at Dennys Restaurant, Beaverdam, in November.  

Dale Hochstettler, formerly of Bluffton, now of Midland, Michigan, provided descendant details on those attending.

Wayne D. Shafer, 94, of Bluffton died Dec. 5, 2019, at the Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton.  Arrangements are incomplete at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

Team finished 2nd in 27-team Versailles competition on Nov. 23

The Fearless Feminine Felines, First Lego League team, consisting of girls ages 10 to 14 from Bluffton and Ada, placed second of 27 teams at a Versailles qualifying tournament on Nov. 23.

Only one of three all-girl teams competing, the Felines advance to the next tournament level to compete to be one of the top teams in northwestern Ohio. That tournament is Jan. 18 in Sylvania.

Performance Sunday at 4 p.m. in Yoder Recital Hall

Bluffton University’s music department has announced the soloists for its 124th performance of Handel’s “Messiah,” at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, in Yoder Recital Hall.

Soloists are Hanna Lee, soprano; Ryu-Kyung Kim, mezzo-soprano; Benjamin Bunsold, tenor; and Robert Kerr, baritone.

Baylor Garmatter plans to major in engineering after high school

Baylor Garmatter, a Bluffton High School senior, is the BHS November student of the month.

He is a three-time Gold Medal winner on the National Latin Exam. In addition, Baylor is a student athlete in football, basketball and track. In football he was named All-Northwest Conference defensive back, NWC scholar athlete and has qualified for the state track meet in the past three seasons.

For post-secondary classes he takes Calculus through Rhodes State College/Mrs. Riffle. 

Riley Creek Pharmacy sponsors event at Pandora United Methodist Church

Riley Creek Pharmacy, Pandora, invites Icon viewers to Santa Day and a free community meal from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Pandora United Methodist Church, 108 E. Washington St., (State Route 12).

Santa arrives at 6 p.m., Bring the entire family for dinner, Santa pictures and gifts. First National Bank will have crafts for children.
