Wanda L. Kiene, 78 of Pandora died 11:02 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020, at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay.  She was born Sept. 15, 1941, in Lima to the late Millard and Mildred (Hattery) Bok. On Oct. 24, 1959, she married Alton Kiene and he survives in Pandora.

Bluffton Public Library's Winter Book Challenge returns, and there's still time to participate.

The library announced the Winter Reading Program for children, teens, and adults is now underway. It is one of many programs in January. 

Pick up a Winter Reading Bookmark at the library, or download and print it from the library's website. Then complete five or more challenges during the months of January through March to receive a prize. You may then also enter a drawing to win a larger prize.

Mercy Health Lima President speaks on mission and relationships at Bluffton University Presidential Leadership Forum

Just as it is stressed at Bluffton, Ronda Lehman, president of Mercy Health, Lima,believes relationships are the key to getting things done.

“It’s relationships, relationships, relationships,” said Lehman, who spoke during Bluffton University’s Presidential Leadership Forum on Jan. 14 in Yoder Recital Hall. “You are building your reputation every day, and how you treat people is everything.”

Bluffton Soccer Club online registration now open

The Bluffton Soccer Club is taking registrations for the 2020 spring soccer season, according to Dan Lee.

Registration is online at www.blufftonsoccer.com.  Registrations will be open until Saturday, Feb 1. After Feb 1 there will be a $25 late fee.

Gary Eugene Hauenstein, 69, died Jan. 21, 2020, at Lima Memorial Health System, Emergency Room.  

Gary was born Nov. 21, 1950, in Allen County, Ohio to the late Kenneth and Lucille (Klingler) Hauenstein. On June 26, 1976, he married Joyce Michel Hauenstein who survives.

The Bluffton University women's basketball team played host to the Anderson University Ravens in a Heartland Conference clash on Saturday, Jan. 18. After going up 7-2 early in the contest, Bluffton struggled to find the net the rest of the way, resulting in a 60-47 loss for the home team. Bluffton fell to 9-6 overall and 3-5 in the Heartland Conference, while Anderson improved to 6-9 and 2-6 in the HCAC.

The Bluffton University men's basketball team played host to Anderson University in a Heartland Conference tilt on Saturday, Jan. 18. After a disappointing lossat Earlham College on Wednesday night, the home team was looking to get back in the win column and they did just that by knocking off the Ravens, 81-71. Bluffton improved to 8-7 overall and 4-4 in the conference, while Anderson fell to 8-7 overall and 5-3 in the HCAC.

The Pandora United Methodist Church will be hosting a free Community Meal on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. The church is located at 108 E. Washington Street, Pandora. 

The meal is provided by 7 o'clock Flock Small Group. The menu is tomato soup, grilled cheese sandwiches, relish tray, rocket brownies, and beverages.

SweetNotes is holding auditions now through Monday, Jan. 27, according to Vicki Mills.  

SweetNotes, the women's division, of Noteworthy Community Choir, rehearses from  Jan. 27 to March 16 with a March 19 evening performance and additional community performances.

Public meeting Wednesday at Allen East schools

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 1 will hold a public meeting to share proposed safety improvements for the intersections of state Route 309 at both Thayer and Napoleon roads, east of Lima­.

The meeting is  at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22,in the cafeteria at Allen East Local High School, 9105 Harding Highway, Harrod.
