7:00 a.m. breakfast, 7:30 a.m. meeting on the 3rd floor of Bluffton Town Hall

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly breakfast meeting on Friday, September 13. The meeting will be held on the third floor of the Town Hall. This is the first meeting following a July-August summer break.

The meeting sponsor is Bluffton University and Greenhorn will be providing the breakfast.

Members of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Jenera will observe the annual Shipwreck Remembrance on Sunday, September 15.

The church notes that the 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. services "will give praise to the Lord for saving the lives of passengers on the 'Famous Dove' when it was shipwrecked off the east coast of the United States on September 17, 1831.

The Allen County Board of Development Disabilities has announced the following schedule for committees during September 2024. All meetings are scheduled for the 2500 Ada Rd., Lima location.

Robert E. "Bob" Wilch of Bluffton, Ohio passed away August 18, 2024 at his residence shared with his daughter, Penny. He was born February 21, 1929, to the late Harvey and Roma Wilch. Bob was a graduate of Bluffton High School where he participated in all sports and state championship games.  As a young adult, Bob played on local softball teams and after games would drink an orange crush soda while his teammates had their beers, earning him the nickname “orange crush kid.” 

12:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 17 at Bluffton Town Hall

Laura Dagani, RN, Certified Nurse Practitioner and lifelong resident of the Bluffton area, will be speaking at the Bluffton Lions Club noon meeting on September 17.

Dagani has worked at both the Bluffton and Findlay hospitals and is currently a Diabetic Specialist at the Endocrinology and Diabetic Clinic of Blanchard Valley Health System in Findlay.

The Lions welcome and encourage community members to attend this informative meeting about diabetes and current treatments.

Church celebrates 175 Years, provides anecdote from the 1940s

After World War II, there was a scramble to call pastors. Bluffton Presbyterian had not had a pastor during the war and they wanted to call Ernest Bigelow who was graduating from Yale Divinity School. 

Trinity Lutheran Church of Jenera has announced that their educational play-dates will begin on September 16 and 17 and continue on the first and third Monday and Tuesday of each month from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church, 301 North Main Street.

A second session is held on Mondays from 11:00-12:00 (each of the three sessions are the same.) 

Advance registration is required online at tlcjenera.org or by calling 262-391-7994. The cost is $5 per family (not per child) per session. Payment may be by cash or check. If a session is full, there is a waiting list.

The following activities will be held at Bluffton Public Library on a drop-in basis during the month of September 2024:

Chill Zone is on Monday afternoons after school at 3:30 p.m. Chill Zone is a safe space for tweens and teens to hang out at the library. Anyone in grades 6-12 is welcome to join. Activities include gaming, socializing, themed events, and crafting. Snacks are provided. 

PANDORA — First National Bank has announced that Derrick Lee is its new Chief Financial Officer. Lee will oversee all financial operations, including financial planning and analysis, risk management and strategic financial initiatives. He will work closely with the executive team to develop and implement strategies that support the bank’s long-term objectives and enhance its financial performance.
