OCT 9 MEDIA RELEASE__Bluffton High School has named Elizabeth (Lizzy) Suter as the September 2025 Student of the Month. Elizabeth is a senior with a 4.00 GPA and the daughter of Lane and Teresa Suter of Pandora.
An active and accomplished student, Elizabeth is involved in Latin Club, Art Club, Math Club, Academic Team, and serves as president of the National Honor Society. Throughout her high school career, she has demonstrated excellence in both academics and the arts.
The Icon incorrectly stated that Orange Township Fiscal Officer Bart A. Moser and Trustee Thomas E Green were not running for reelection. These seats do not expire in 2025. Moser's term expires 3/31/2028 and Green's term expires 12/31/2027.
VAN BUREN__The visiting Bluffton High School volleyball team ended its regular season with a four-set comeback victory at tough Van Buren in a non-conference match on Thursday, October 9.
The Pirate girls improved to 15-7 overall with the 22-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-23 road victory. Van Buren fell to 17-5 after the defeat.
Karlie Lora and Kendall Stackhouse tied for team honors in kills with 18 smackdowns apiece.
Camryn Fruchey knocked down 11 kills and dished out 30 assists. Adelyn Althaus doled out 17 assists.
BLUFFTON__The visiting Bluffton High School boys soccer team blanked visiting Kalida 1-0 in a non-league match to end the regular season on an up note at Steinmetz Field on Thursday, October 9.
The Pirate boys improved to 5-9-3 after the big home win.
Putnam County League power Kalida fell to 9-3-4 after the defeat.
The game was scoreless for the first half and much of the second half.
With 15 minutes remaining, Pirate Brahlen August netted the game’s lone goal to provide the winning shot.
OTTAWA__The visiting Bluffton High School girls soccer team lost 4-0 to traditional powerhouse Ottawa-Glandorf in a non-league match on Thursday, Oct. 9.
The Pirate girls finished their regular season 8-8-1 overall after suffering the road defeat.
Western Buckeye League champion Ottawa-Glandorf improved to 12-5 after the home shutout win.
Ottawa-Glandorf’s Karsyn Erford started the scoring with a goal in the sixth minute. Titan teammate Delaney Duling netted a goal just two minutes later to build a 2-0 lead.
The October 2 inauguration of Bluffton University President Alex Sider was an opportunity to witness the pomp and circumstance of such rare events. The speeches and ceremonies at Yoder Hall were solemn, celebratory and personal. The event was shaped by both the individual honored and the institution he will lead.
