Feb. 20 event benefits Bluffton Community Assistance Program food pantry

Ten local chefs will participate in the community chili cook-off from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20, in the Bluffton Middle School cafetorium. 

This is the third year for the event that supports the Bluffton Community Assistance food pantry. The cook-off gives community members the chance to sample each recipe and vote for their favorite; cost $5 per person. 

Entertainment will be provided by Dancers Elite Dance Studio and Krysti’s Music Studio. Dancers will perform from 5:30-6:15 p.m. and music students will perform from 6:15-7 p.m.

May opening day is closer than you think

New and returning vendors are invited to a meeting with Bluffton Farmers Market manager Greg Probst at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12.

The meeting will take place on the third floor of Bluffton Town Hall, 154 N. Main St. That evening, vendors will learn about promotional opportunities and may reserve full-year spaces at a discounted price.

Located in the Citizens National Bank parking lot in downtown Bluffton, the Bluffton Farmers Market is open on Saturday mornings from 8:30 a.m. - noon, May through October.​

Girls' beat Miller City; boys stop Riverdale

Bluffton girls’ and boys’ basketball teams won on Saturday.

It was the girls’ winning 57-41 over Miller City. Three Pirates in double figures led by Averey Rumer with 14, Katie Prater 13 and Alivia Koenig 10. Libby Schaadt added 9.

Meanwhile the boys’ defeated 55 – 38. Jared Piercefield and Mason Soper with 16 each and Luke Denecker scored 15. Pirates now 13-6 on the year.

Bluffton University split games with Anderson on Saturday. Bluffton women lost; Bluffton men lost. Accounts of both games follow:

Women's game
The Bluffton University women's basketball team defeated Anderson University on Saturday, Feb. 9 by the score of 70-66 in a Heartland Conference tussle. Bluffton improved to 8-15 on the year and is now 6-10 in Heartland Conference play. Anderson fell to 9-14 overall and 5-11 in the HCAC.
