MAY 1 MEDIA RELEASE__The West Central Ohio Land Conservancy (WCOLC) is pleased to announce the hiring of Kathryn Ware as its first Executive Director. This milestone is made possible through the award of a three year grant of $56,600 from the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation.  

Ware brings a strong background in nonprofit leadership, conservation, and community engagement. A longtime resident of Hancock County, Ware is dedicated to working with local agricultural communities in preserving the rich farmland in West Central Ohio.

MAY 1 MEDIA RELEASE__The next program in a series coordinated by the Bluffton Ohio Historical Society, Swiss Family Migration with Fred Steiner, takes place at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, at the Bluffton Public Library. 

Steiner’s photo presentation will tell the story of his great-grandparents, Rudolf and Barbara Amstutz Althaus. In 1845, at age 23, Rudolf immigrated to America from Switzerland. After traveling throughout the Midwest, he settled in Bluffton in 1857 and married Barbara Amstutz, who was born in Wayne County, Ohio and was also of Swiss lineage. Rudolf’s brother, Gotthard, also immigrated to the United States. He moved to rural Bluffton and was a farmer.

APRIL 30 MEDIA RELEASE__Over 850 volunteers will be spread out at project sites throughout the county next week during United Way of Hancock County’s Days of Caring event.

The biannual volunteer event matches employees of area corporations and small businesses with nonprofits and other service agencies in need of some extra hands. Spring Days of Caring will run May 5-9, with 861 volunteers working to complete 85 landscaping, building, organizing, painting, planting and construction projects for 32 different organizations.

Angel M. Langhals, 54, passed away April 30, 2025, at St. Rita's Medical Center.

Angel was born February 21, 1971 in Lima to David Jolliff and Cathy (Campbell) Stuber who survive. On August 11, 1990 she married Brian Langhals who survives. 

APRIO 30 MEDIA RELEASE__On April 24, 2025 the Allen County Sheriff’s Office along with the Violent Crimes Against Children and Human Trafficking Task Force (a multi-agency task force) performed an operation to target sex and human traffickers. The sting operation was set up at a local hotel and resulted in multiple individuals being detained.

No arrested were made at the time. This investigation is ongoing with charges expected to be presented at a later date.

The Bluffton Area Ministerial Association will hold a Blessing of the Bikes--including motorcycles, trikes, bikes, scooters and more--on Sunday May 4 at 1:00 p.m.

The event will take place at the English Lutheran Church parking lot at 111 Grove St.
