FREMONT__The Bluffton High School girls golf team finished ninth in the 13-team St. Joseph’s Central Catholic Invitational at Sycamore Hills Golf Club on Thursday, August 20 in Fremont.

Hopewell-Loudon won the event with 356 strokes, six shots ahead of second-place Van Buren (362). Host SJCC ended up third (380), followed by Mapleton (396), Woodmore (416), Ashland Crestview (422), Tiffin Calvert (433), Margaretta (438) and Bluffton (453).

MEDIA RELEASE__Calling all would-be actors!  Calling all history fans! Bluffton Ohio Historical Society is asking for volunteers to take part in a unique, one-off reenactment of the day Dillinger’s gang robbed Bluffton’s bank.

Fred Steiner has written the script. Kevin Gratz will be the chief narrator.

MEDIA RELEASE__Bluffton University officially welcomed its 127th class during Opening Convocation Tuesday, Aug. 18. First-year and transfer students were formally welcomed to the university as Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs Dr. Mary Robinson read their names.

LIMA__The visiting Bluffton High School girls tennis team defeated Bath 4-1 in a makeup match on Wednesday, August 19.

Bluffton improved to 3-1 with the decisive victory. All five matches were decided in straight sets.

Freshman Hope Luginbill won at second singles over sophomore Elizabeth Rope 6-3, 7-5.

Sophomore Leah Hoffman defeated junior Jordan Taylor 6-1, 6-0.

Bluffton swept both doubles matches handily.

MEDIA RELEASE__The Ohio State Highway Patrol has announced an OVI checkpoint will be held in Hancock County on the evening of Friday, August 21.

The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.
