JULY 31 MEDIA RELEASE__Bluffton University’s Board of Trustees has named the 11th president in Bluffton’s 125-year history. Dr. J. Alexander Sider has accepted the call to serve as Bluffton’s next president effective Aug. 1, 2025.

Roughly 12% of adults in the U.S. are using the injectable drugs known as GLP-1s. These medications include semaglutide (Ozempic) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro). With the use of these medications to help with weight loss and diabetes comes many questions about the long-term impact on health.  Although these medications have provided benefits, it is important to keep in mind the effect on the rest of the body to ensure optimal health.

Play Music on the Porch Day will be celebrated in Bluffton starting at Bluffton Public Library on Sat., Aug. 30 at 10:00 a.m. near the library’s main entrance. Bring an instrument, your singing voice and/or your listening ears and a lawn chair to enjoy family friendly music. (If it’s a rainy day, folks may gather inside in a designated area.) This event has been held at the Bluffton Public Library for the past 10+ years and will be the start of the second annual Bluffton Porchfest, organized by Eric Reneker. Check out Bluffton Porchfest music events throughout the day. Copies of the day’s schedule will be available at the Bluffton Public Library front desk/posted on the main entry doors  and on the Facebook page Play Music on The Porch Day - Bluffton, OH (PorchFest).

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the following winning numbers from the July 24-25 Discovery Days prize drawing:

UPDATED. Wesley “Wes” Allen Leightner, 84, passed away July 30, 2025 at the Meadows of Leipsic. 

Wes was born March 3, 1941 in Fort Wayne, IN, to Clinton Edward Leightner, from Pandora, OH and Genevieve Marie Dilgart Leightner from Clyde, OH. 

They moved to Houston, TX in 1945, when he was 4 years old, then Humboldt, TN in 1948, when he was 7 years old and then to Pandora, OH in 1957, when he was 16 years old.
