BLUFFTON__The Bluffton High School softball team lost 10-4 to visiting Columbus Grove in a Northwest Conference battle on Thursday, May 7.

The Bulldogs led 3-1 after an eventful first inning. CG then scored two runs in the second inning. 

The Pirates tallied single runs in the third and fourth frames, but Grove plated four big runs in the fourth to lead 9-3.

Both teams added one run in the seventh inning.

Each team rapped out 13 hits. Bluffton made three errors which led to two unearned runs.

BLUFFTON__The Bluffton High School baseball team lost 11-1 to visiting Columbus Grove in a Northwest Conference game at Village Park on Thursday, May 7.

The Bulldogs jumped 5-0 after the top of the first inning and never trailed. Both teams scored a run in the third frame.

CG then scored three runs in the fourth inning to surge ahead, 9-1. Grove plated two more runs in the sixth to lead 11-1 and enact the 10-run mercy rule

Grove out-hit Bluffton 7-5, and each team committed one error.

May 3 was a lucky day for Cameron Schroeder. He caught the No. 1 tagged trout at the Bluffton Sportsmen’s Club annual Trout Derby, earning him half of the raffle jackpot plus $1,000. Lucky Lynda Best won the other half of the raffle prize, $950.

According to club president Tom Augsburger, it's been four or five years since the No. 1 trout has been caught on Derby Day.

BLUFFTON__The Bluffton High School boys tennis team rolled to a 5-0 win over visiting Lima Central Catholic on Wednesday, May 6.

The Pirate record improved to 9-2-1 after the sweep victory. Bluffton won all 10 sets in the one-sided win.

Bluffton senior Grady Coonfare beat Evan Brinkman 6-0, 6-3 at first singles. 

Pirate senior Isaiah Kohli rolled 6-0, 6-0 over Chayse Helmig at second singles.  

At third singles, Bluffton senior Nick Lovett cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
