Bluffton police ask Icon viewers to be aware of a potential telephone scam taking place in the area. 

"We had a couple come into the police station today because they were contacted saying a family member needed “bail” money.  The entire incident was a hoax, and fortunately, the local residents contacted police to clear things up before anyone lost any money," Rick Skilliter, Bluffton police chief told The Icon.

Ideal Images, 114 E. College Ave., Bluffton, is expanding its operations, according to Rachel Webster, owner.

"We are proud to be a member of the Bluffton community and will celebrate our fourth  successful year in business on Jan. 24," said Webster. 

“As we enter into our fourth year, serving the needs of the business, school, and industrial custom apparel world, we are pleased to announce Ideal Images will expand our operations.” 

Martha Pauline (Gerber) Brown, 97, native to Pandora, died Jan. 12, 2015, in Birmingham, Ala.  She was born July 27, 1917.

She was preceded in death by second son, Jared Paul Brown who died 3 days after his birth on Feb. 25, 1948, and by her  husband and missionary co-worker for 68 years, Rev. Dr. O. Carl Brown, Jr., on Nov. 12, 2010.       

Blame it on Dick Boehr.

This fall he started cleaning out more than a half century of Bluffton collectibles from his Vine Street office.

When he came to the box with Bluffton Boehr’s basketball jersey number 55, he couldn’t resist.

He sent it to the only player who ever wore the jersey, Jim Sommer, a Bluffton University athletic hall of famer.

Dr. Melissa Friesen returned from a two-week trip to Italy last July with more than the usual souvenirs.

The professor of theatre and communication at Bluffton University also brought back ideas for her classes, including Theatre for Social Change, a class she has developed and is currently teaching for the second time.

It was one of those January days in Bluffton. Seems like it always happens on Mondays. First a two-hour school delay. Then cancellation. Meanwhile the sidewalks in town including this one in from of the elementary get a going over.
