Summer has arrived, bringing intense heat and other risks. Although it's a season to enjoy the outdoors, prioritizing wellness is crucial. Extreme heat exposure can lead to illnesses like heat cramps, heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Plus, summer festivities heighten the importance of water, fireworks and food safety. By taking simple precautions, you can safely enjoy your summer activities without compromising your health.

The Bluffton Senior Center, 132 N Main St., has issued its August 2025 Happenings newsletter. Members receive the newsletter by mail or email. In this issue, readers learn about the August 11 dinner meeting, new activities director Sherry Miller, who's who among five new members and details about upcoming travel opportunities. There is even a recipe for Thousand Island dressing, picked up on a trip to Lake Ontario. For more information, stop by the Senior Center.

To date, fewer candidates than seats in Bluffton Council race

The filing deadline for nominating petitions by non-partisan candidates to appear on the November 4 General Election ballot in Ohio is 4:00 p.m. on August 6, 2025 (90 days before the General Election).

Write-in candidates must file declarations of intent by 4:00 p.m. on August 25.

To become a candidate, individuals must collect the designated number of valid voter signatures on the form designated by the Secretary of State and pay a $30 fee.

AUGUST 1 MEDIA RELEASE__August 7 through 9 marks the 21st annual Lincoln Highway Buy Way Yard Sales across the State of Ohio.

The historic Lincoln Highway was the first transcontinental road for automobile travel in the United States, dedicated in 1913 and extending from New York City’s Times Square to San Francisco’s Lincoln Park.  Combined, various routes across Ohio comprise over 400 miles today. 

Past year’s sales have seen families, neighbors and groups of all kinds selling their wares from yards, porches, barns and garages; under tents and in open-air locations.

JULY 31 MEDIA RELEASE__Bluffton University’s Board of Trustees has named the 11th president in Bluffton’s 125-year history. Dr. J. Alexander Sider has accepted the call to serve as Bluffton’s next president effective Aug. 1, 2025.
