Vernal H. Corson, 94, of Bluffton died Oct. 24, 2011 at Baton Rouge Senior Services Health Center, Lima. She was born May 21, 1917, in Van Wert to Raymond and Ruby Ausman Holbrook. On June 19, 1937, she married Donald C. Corson and he preceded her in death.

Vernal spent most of her adult life in Bluffton. She was employed as the secretary/clerk of the Board of Education and treasurer for the Bluffton Schools for a number of years.

Later she worked as a secretary for Ex-Cello Corp. She was a 1935 graduate of Lima Central High School.

This one belongs to Rev. Dr. Matthew Zuehlke, pastor of Bluffton Presbyterian Church.

Six Buffton Middle School students were named Pirates of the Month for September.

Nash White, son of Chris and Paula White, Bluffton attends St. John Mennonite Church, Pandora, and plays soccer on a U-12 team.
Karis Wilson, daughter of Ken and Colleen Wilson, Jenera, plays in the middle school band and choir, is a member of the quiz bowl team, plays volleyball, basketball and is a Bucs cheerleader. She is in 4-H , attends Zion Lutheran Church and is in swim team and gymnastics.

Bluffton's Ten Thousand Village store is now offering a rose window mood lamp from Bangladesh for $38, according to Aphaphanh Nussbaum, manager.

"The lamp represents a light of hope to fill holiday homes and hearts," she said. "This cut paper lamp represents the opportunity the Shuktara Handmade Paper workshop provides for Bengali women it employs."

Ten Thousand Villages, 115 S. Main St., is an Icon advertiser. Store hours are Mondays to Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursdays 1-5 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Peter Suter of Shannon Theatre announced that "Puss In Boots" (PG) is showing at the theatre from October 28 - November 3.

The Bluffton High School Athletic Department will hold a meeting for all parents, who have a child playing a winter sport grades 7-12, according to Alex Hanna, athletic director.

The meeting is at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 3, in the Middle School Cafetorium.

Parents will hear from the athletic director as well as their child's coach, regarding athletic policy.
