BLUFFTON - The host Bluffton girls volleyball team rallied to win a tough four-set match over Van Buren Monday night in first round Div. III sectional action.

Bluffton improved its record to 14-8 overall with the hard-fought 26-28, 25-23, 25-22, 25-17 comeback victory. Due to a scheduling quirk, it was their second four-set win over the Black Knight girls in five days.

Kathleen L. Gilbert, 69, of Van Wert, Ohio, died on Oct. 17, 2020, at Bridge Hospice Care Center in the Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay, after losing her near two-year battle with cancer.  

She was born on July 31,1951, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to the late Everett and Gladys (Brumitt) Martin.

She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly (Gary) Wise of Bluffton; and three grandchildren, Avery, Jackson and Olivia Wise.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, James E. Gilbert; and a granddaughter, Sydney J. Wise.

Bluffton University presents fall theatre

Bluffton University theatre will present five short plays for their fall performance collectively titled “Alone, Together,” during three virtual viewing opportunities, Oct. 29-Nov. 1.

The plays will explore the challenges and surprises of social distancing during the pandemic with charm, humor, tenderness and loss.

Tonight's board agenda has 26 winter supplemental contacts

On Oct. 9, the U.S. Department of Agriculture extended its free breakfast and lunch program offered to school from Dec. 31 until the end of the school year.

Bluffton Schools participates in the federal meal program, which began Sept. 10.

The program was extended to all schools as a response to economic concerns brought on for many families by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Students who have balances on their accounts can be used in the meantime for additional ala cart menu items beyond the basic lunch.  

Janet Ruth Campbell, 79, died Oct. 19, 2020, at her residence. Janet was born Feb. 24, 1941, in Lima to the late Robert and D. Frances (White) Wellbaum. On Dec. 5, 1959, she married Richard Campbell and he survives.

Janet graduated from Bath High School, had been a homemaker and attended Rockport United Methodist Church.    

Survivors include her husband, Richard Campbell of Bluffton; a son, Scott (Barbara) Campbell of Batavia, Ohio; two granddaughters, Melissa Campbell, Sara Campbell and a sister, Judy (Michael) Tannehill of Las Cruces, New Mexico.
