Come together on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 27, for Bluffton Day of Giving and create momentum for the education that empowers Bluffton University graduates to make a difference in the world.

For the fifth year, Bluffton University will participate in Giving Tuesday—a global initiative which encourages charitable giving amid holiday consumerism.

With nationally accredited programs in dietetics, education, music and social work, and champion volleyball and women’s basketball teams, Bluffton continues to be a place that inspires young people to find their purpose in the world.

Do your kids need a warm place to get some energy out? 

Join a free open gym for all pre-school aged children at Trinity Lutheran School, 105 Allen St., Jenera, on Monday, Nov. 26, from 10to 11 a.m. 

There will be balls to play with, ride-on toys, mats to crawl/roll around on, a mini-trampoline, infant toys and lots of space to run around and play.

Nov. 12 and 13 were knotting days at Bluffton First Mennonite Church, as persons of all ages participated in knotting comforters that are donated to Mennonite Central Committee.

MCC distributes the comforters to people in the U.S., as well as Jordan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Korea, Ukraine, Iraq, Zambia, Syria, Somalia, Lebanon, Haiti, Burkina Faso, and Canada.

The local Mennonite Women’s group organizes the knotting days to complete comforters made by various members of the church.

Due to the icy weather conditions, the Thanksgiving community meal and service planned at the Senior Citizen Center this evening (Thursday, Nov. 15) is cancelled, according to Rev. Jeremy Mann, of the Bluffton Area Ministerial Association.

 

 

Ice on the roadways

A two-hour ice delay turned into a school cancellation day today (Thursday, Nov. 15) for Bluffton and many area schools.

The two-hour delay was called at 5:26 a.m. The cancellation announcement was made at 7:30 a.m. At the time of this posting the temperature was 31 degrees with ice-covered roadways.

Gerald "Gary" Ervin Hofacker, 57 of Lima, died Nov. 13, 2018, at Mercy Health - St. Rita's Medical Center.

Gary was born Aug. 11, 1961, in Lima to Gerald "Slim" Hofacker, who preceded him in death and Shari (Luchini) Hofacker who survives him in Lima.

On Aug. 11, 1990, he married Janice (Hoffman) Hofacker, who survives him in Lima. Gary graduated from Bluffton High School in 1979 with honors and then attended The Ohio State University, Lima branch. He started at Allen County Juvenile Facility in 1991 where he worked his way up to captain.
