Bluffton Police Department has received $14,250 to date in pledges towards its goal of $17,000 to add a K-9 unit to the department, according to Tyler Hochstetler, sergeant.
“We are extremely grateful for the overwhelming support the community has had for this project and are continuing to receive pledges on a daily basis,” he told The Icon.
He added that the department continues to seek and accept pledges and is extremely close to its goal after less than two months of the pledge effort.
Dr. Robert Antibus, professor emeritus of biology, will present the Colloquium, "Mushrooms as a Window to Biodiversity at the Kitty Todd Preserve," on Friday, Oct. 13. During the presentation, Antibus will discuss the major findings of a three-year study he has conducted on the mushrooms of the Kitty Todd Prairie in Swanton, Ohio.
Antibus says biologists consider fungi to represent the second most species-diverse group of organisms on Earth; however, they have not yet been studied in the oak openings region of Northwest Ohio.
Stories of transformative experiences and life-long lessons filled Founders Hall Tuesday as students shared memories from their May-term, cross-cultural experiences. Eighty Bluffton University students participated in a cross-cultural last spring. Those students took part in one of six different experiences including travels to Bolivia, Botswana, China, Trinidad, Kentucky and Chicago.
The Bluffton Icon and Ada Icon are now an accredited business with the Better Business Bureau, according to Fred Steiner, Icon owner.
“We want to assure our advertising customers and potential customers that the Icons are trusted advertising sources and that we have a high standard of business practice,” he said.
He added that by being a BBB member the Icons will pass along information to viewers about scams and other sources that assist consumers.
