The band Black Swamp Players from Putnam County will perform in Bluffton's Music at the Gazebo series on Thursday, July 30, from 7-9 p.m. The members played back in the 1980s and recently got the band back together. This free series is supported by GROB Systems of Bluffton. Listeners are invited to bring snacks and chairs. Tipping and sponsors are welcome. Alcohol, tobacco and vaping are prohibited on church property.
Bluffton Village Council held a regular meeting on Monday, July 27, with Mayor Richard Johnson presiding. Among discussions and actions was a $1.2M reconstruction project on N. Main St. and the introduction of the SeeMyLegacy online community engagement platform.
NORTH MAIN ST. RECONSTRUCTION
The first Phase of the N. Main St Reconstruction project is expected to begin this month. Ohio Public Works Commission funding will be sought to cover some of the expected cost. It is projected to be approximately $1,184,254.
FROM BSC HAPPENINGS__Don Klingler will speak on a life of service during the August membership meeting at the Bluffton Senior Center. Klingler will speak about his service to the country as a pilot, including flying the presidential helicopter. He also served locally as the general manager of the Allen County Fair and as a farmer.
The meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10.
FROM FACEBOOK__Youth for Christ of Northwest Ohio has received the donation of four restored tractors from the Foulkes family in memory of Elvet and Reita Foulkes.
MEDIA RELEASE__Allen Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its Annual Open House and Board of Supervisors Election from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 6 at the Allen SWCD office located at 1870 Slabtown Road, Lima.
Voting for the Allen SWCD Board of Supervisors will be held, with voting ending at 7:00 p.m. Eligible voters must be 18 years or older and own land in Allen County. Those attending the event will be able to meet district staff. There will be games, drawings and prizes along with grilled food served.
MEDIA RELEASE_Bluffton University has been awarded a Choose Ohio First (COF) grant by the Ohio Department of Higher Education to support students in critical STEM fields.
The four-year $43,255 grant will support students majoring in biology, chemistry, communication sciences and disorders, environmental science, information technology, mathematics, mathematics education, medical laboratory science, nursing, nutrition and dietetics, pre-engineering, pre-occupational therapy and pre-physical therapy.
