MEDIA RELEASE__Bluffton University is committed to supporting students impacted by the recently announced closure of Lourdes University at the end of the 2025–26 academic year. Recognizing the challenges students face during this transition, Bluffton is enhancing its transfer pathways and resources to help Lourdes’ students continue their academic journeys with minimal disruption.

MEDIA RELEASE__The Blanchard Valley Health System Auxiliary is now accepting scholarship applications from students in the Hancock County area who plan to pursue a career in a health-related field. Applications are available online.

The Auxiliary Scholarship was established to help local high school seniors offset the cost of education as they prepare for professions in healthcare. Franki Hatten, volunteer services manager, said eligible career paths can include roles such as dental hygienist, nurse, physician, or other healthcare specialties.

Schaadt, Utendorf receive Honorary Mention

Bluffton High School sophomore guard Maelee Miller was named first team All-Northwest Conference for girls basketball in voting recently conducted by league coaches.

The athletic 5-9 Miller was one of the team leaders in points, three-point goals, assists and steals.

Pirate seniors Blair Utendorf and Macy Schaadt earned honorable mention all-league notice. The versatile wing Utendorf is a solid all-around player, while Schaadt is a good long-range shooter.

The February 13 breakfast meeting of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce provided chamber updates from director Rene Gabriel and member announcements. A presentation by Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio featured John Warner, President and CEO of Brethren Retirement Community, and Shelby Cole, Sales and Marketing Coordinator. The program provided background information on MHCO services and an overview of the merger that was initiated in 2019.

The Bluffton High School boys basketball team was seeded sixth at the nine-team Div. V Northwest 2 sectional drawing on Sunday, February 15.

The Pirates (9-12) will play at fourth seed Ottawa Hills (13-9) on Friday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in one sectional final.

The winner will play either third seed Archbold (13-8) or fifth seed Coldwater (9-11) on March 3 at Napoleon at 7 p.m.

The district finals are March 6 at Kansas Lakota.

Castalia Margaretta (18-3) received a first-round bye and is the top seed in the sectional.
