The Bluffton University Men's and Women's Cross Country teams are excited to start the 2014 campaign. The men return a pair of strong runners in sophomore Jack Fisher (Norwalk/St. Paul) and junior Zach Bradley (Sheffield/Brookside). This duo should provide a strong front running combination that will be very effective in the Heartland Conference.
Competitive and recreational runners are welcome to participate in the annual 5K Run/Walk held by BFR on Saturday, Aug. 30.
The Labor Day weekend event will include a 5K road race/walk, a Pump n Run Challenge and a Fun Run. The 5K course begins at BFR and ends at the Buckeye Park and is a measured 3.1 distance over fairly flat, paved surfaces.
Dr. Ken Bain, whose book, “What the Best College Students Do,” was this year’s summer reading for first-year Bluffton University students, will be the featured speaker Thursday, Aug. 28, as Bluffton welcomes the class of 2018 at its annual opening convocation.
With faculty in regalia looking on, about 245 new first-year and transfer students will be introduced during the ceremony, which begins at 10:45 a.m. in Founders Hall.

A beautiful summer evening set the tone for over 100 crowd members at Mennonite Memorial Home’s annual “Concert on the Lawn” on Aug. 17.
This year’s concert featured Bob Ford, a musician and storyteller from Cedarville. Residents, family members and community members gathered to enjoy the folk sounds brought by Ford.
Kids, both young and old, enjoyed the sounds and soon learned that you can’t simply listen to Bob play – the melodies are so contagious you can’t help but tap your toes.
