Pandora United Methodist Church, 108 E. Washington St., will hold an ice cream social from 5 to7 p.m., Friday, July 26, in th church Fellowship Hall.

Menu consists of your choice of sloppy joe, hot dog, or chicken sandwich, plus cole slaw, baked beans, and or chicken and noodles.

Also, there will be lots and lots of homemade pies and ice cream. Entertainment will be provided by local acoustic guitarist, Tyler Smith.

Members of the Bluffton High School class of 1948 celebrated its 65th reunion on June 21. Dorothy E. Lloyd, 98, died at 4:40 a.m. July 12, 2013, at Willow Ridge, Bluffton. 

She was born Dec. 15, 1914, in Findlay to the late Charles and Merrine (Montgomery) Lloyd.

She retired from Bluffton Community Hospital in 1982 and also had worked at the Boss Manufacturing Company in Bluffton for 25 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Bluffton, Lima YWCA and Bluffton Senior Citizens Center. 

Bluffton University, which sends students worldwide for cross-cultural experiences each year, is in the unusual position of being a cross-cultural destination this summer.

From July 23-Aug. 6, the university will welcome 24 Chinese students ages 14-16 as they experience the United States through a Summer English Program sponsored by Mennonite Partners in China (MPC).

Clarabelle I. Wilson, 82 died at 1:55 p.m. July 10, 2013, at Richland Manor Nursing Home. 

She was born Jan. 27, 1931, in Sidney, Ohio, to the late Caleb and Rosa (Albaugh) Shipp.  On May 8, 1948, she married Leonard Wilson and he died Aug. 27, 1999. Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker.  

Survivors include two daughters Ruby (Mike) Allgire of Columbus Grove, Becky (Steve) Creps of Lima; a son Leonard (Jan) Wilson of Lima; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a sister AdaMae Levring of Cape Coral, Florida.
A grandson Jacob Creps preceded her in death.

On July 10, elders at Maple Crest were delighted to discover all sorts of unique tidbits about famous cartoonists down through the ages from a dynamic (and very funny) modern-day cartoonist, Duane Abel of the Corkey Comics Co. 

Abel became the youngest syndicated cartoonist in the world at age 15 and is best known for his main character, Zed – a pink, fluffy, walking, talking dryer lint.
