In conditions more conducive to mud wrestling than running, the Bluffton University Beavers took to the shoe-swallowing muck and ankle-deep water on Otterbein University's cross country course and performed admirably.
With portions of the course completely flooded, an alternative of multiple laps was improvised which only intensified the bog-like conditions as hundreds of feet churned a muddy path around the fields on Saturday, Sept. 21.
The Bluffton University men's soccer team fell in a non-conference matchup with Calvin College, 5-0, on Friday, Sept. 20.
The Beavers were unable to get anything going on offense while the Knights thrived during a match that was plagued by a two-hour thunder delay and heavy rain throughout.
Bluffton fell to 0-6 on the year, while Calvin improved to 2-3. The Beavers will be back in action on Monday, Sept. 23, when they take to the road for a match at Oberlin College. That contest under the lights is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
June Hicks, 84, of Bluffton died at 11:50 a.m. Sept. 21, 2013 at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. She was born April 8, 1929 in Bluffton to Leland and Ruth Andrews Sechler. On Feb. 8, 1950, she married James Hicks and he preceded her in death on June 12, 2012.
Mrs. Hicks retired from Triplett Corp., Bluffton. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Bluffton.
Bluffton Child Development Center students were visited by staff of Imagination Station on Sept. 12. The fun visit enabled youth to explore lots of science experiments. The Toledo-based Imagination Station is a hands-on science museum with over 300 exhibits for children of all ages.
