Bluffton Middle School Student Senate participated in decorating a tree that will go up for auction during the Festival of Trees at Community Health Professionals in Ada next week.

Mara Drue Minnig is active in many school organizations

Mara Drue Minnig, senior, is the October Bluffton High School student of the month.

She is a member of Latin Club, Renaissance, Drama Club and is in the Show Choir.

She competed on the BHS golf team the past four years and this spring plans to play softball again for the Bluffton Pirates. She has been active in dance for numerous years at Debbie's Dancers Elite where she also volunteers with the younger students.

For the 11th straight season the Bluffton University volleyball team had at least two Beavers named First Team All-Heartland Conference when the post-season awards were doled out. Seniors Bethany Martini (Pickerington/North) and Erin Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) showed out with first team honors following Bluffton's sixth straight trip to the Heartland Conference semi-finals. Also recognized by the Heartland Conference coaches was Brooke Kleman (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) who secured Honorable Mention All-HCAC while being named to the All-Freshman Team.

Bluffton University choirs, University Chorale and Camerata Singers, will hold a concert at Grace Mennonite Church in Pandora, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16.
 
The choirs, under the leadership of newly appointed director of choral activities Dr. Bo Young Kang, will perform a wide selection of music from the sacred Cantate Domino by Giuseppe Pitoni to the traditional American folk song “Cool of the Day” arranged by John Ratledge to the beautiful sounds of “Oh My Luve’s Like a Red, Red Rose” by Rene’ Clausen.

The high reading was 87 - low was 28

October’s temperature extremes were – extreme. The month’s high was 87 on Oct. 6 and Oct. 8. The low was 28 on Oct. 25, representing a 59-degree spread.

Pandora weather observer Guy Verhoff, provided the Icon with the month’s weather statistics.

The 2018 October average temperature was 54.0 degrees, compared to the normal average of 52.5 degrees.

This year’s October’s precipitation was 3.71 inches, compared to the normal average precipitation of 2.68 inches.
