BHS fall drama offers lots of laughs

It’s not your typical high school drama.

It’s a collection of short skits, briefs and vignettes that create a fast-paced evening of chuckles.

It’s Bluffton High School’s Drama Club presentation of “Free Ice Cream.”

Performances are Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9 and 10, in the Bluffton Middle School. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the curtain rises at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for students.

Served with her husband as missionaries in Japan

Alice Ruth Pannabecker Ramseyer died Monday, Nov. 5, 2018.  She was born in Kai Chow, China, on Sept. 27, 1929, to Mennonite missionaries S. F. “Floyd” and Sylvia (Tschantz) Pannabecker. 

She joined two brothers in the family, Dick Pannabecker (long-time Bluffton resident) and Robert Pannabecker.  The family served on the Kai Chow mission  with the family of Floyd's identical twin Lloyd.

CLICK FOR a brief video. Bluffton Library Storytime youth received a strings lesson on Monday. A string quartet from Lima Symphony Orchestra presented an introduction to music session for youth.

The children were introduced to the four different stringed instruments, and heard multiple stories accompanied by string music. 

Bill and Chris Gable purchasing building which housed Bluffton News for many years

Bill and Chris Gable of Lone Palm Real Estate, LLC, of Bluffton are in the final stages of purchasing a Main Street storefront, at 103 N. Main St.

The building for many years housed the Bluffton News and Hopscotch Magazine.  In 2015, the Edwards family sold the building to Dan and Karen Fredritz, of United Pioneers, LLC.  They renovated the building, creating three suites on the ground floor.

On Wednesday, Nov. 14, the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC) will hold a team trivia contest at the Bluffton Golf Club as a fundraiser for the 32nd annual Blaze of Lights festival.

Organizer and BACC board member Derek Dukes invites you to "gather your best and smartest friends" for this event at The Mason Jar at Bluffton Golf Club, 8575 N Dixie Hwy. Teams of up to eight players are allowed. The cost is $150 per team; limited to 16 teams.

Professional development coach speaks at university

Brandon Simmons, professional speaker and development coach with Simmons Development group, will speak during a Bluffton University Forum at 11 a.m. on Nov. 20 in Yoder Recital Hall. The title of his presentation is “The Game and Beyond: Learn the Game, Play the Game, Win the Game.”

The former Division I football player with Bucknell University will share his journey from a challenging childhood to professional success as a collegiate athlete, coach, corporate leader and speaker.

This event is free and open to the public.
