Glass art by Bluffton artist Judith Greavu is available at Gallery 323 this summer. These two pieces are fused glass titled Donegal Tide Pool: Shrimp decorate plate. Greavus has several additition glass works at the gallery.

1850s homestead open each Saturday this summer

Do you know the names of your ancestors who lived in the 19th century?

Can you imagine what they ate and how they dressed?

What they did from sunup to sundown?

On Saturday afternoons, visitors to the Schumacher Homestead, 8350 Bixel Road, Bluffton, will learn what it was like to be an early Swiss settler in the Bluffton-Pandora area.

Swiss Community Historical Society docents can tell you all about the homestead and the generations of the Schumacher family who lived there. You can explore the house from attic to cellar.

Shirley's Gourmet Popcorn Co., Bluffton celebrates Shirley's birthday on Saturday, June 16, wil a day full of family-friendly events, according to Pete and Kim Suter.

Carnival games, a coloring contest, and buy-one-get-one specials highlight the event held downtown Bluffton, with 100 percent of sales being donated to Bluffton Public Library.

He and his wife taught English to Afghan refugees in Pakistan from 1995-96.

Albert John Wakeman died June 7, 2018, in Pandora.

He was born in Binghamton, New York, Nov.12, 1925, to Howard Vermilia Wakeman and Hazel Esther Carey.

Drafted just before high school graduation in 1942, he volunteered for the Navy, learned diesel mechanic skills, and served in World War II on a PT boat until his honorable discharge in May, 1946.

He graduated from Bob Jones University,  (B.A. 1950, M.A. in theology 1952). There he taught Greek and continued his travel adventures, by teaching in Afghanistan.
