Here are road repair updates for next week from the Ohio Department of Transportation.

• U.S. 30 eastbound just west of Pevee Road will be reduced to one lane through the work zone on Aug. 28 for repair of concrete pavement. Work is being performed by ODOT roadway services.

• State Route 696 from just east of Swaney Road to just north of the village of Beaverdam will be reduced to one lane through the work zone for pavement repair and resurfacing. Work is being performed by Bluffton Paving, Bluffton.

Pandora insurance agency purchases Swiss Mutual Insurance

Nathan Sprunger announces an open house on Friday, Aug. 25, for Sprunger Insurance Agency's Bluffton office at 208 S. Main St.

The open house is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"Stop in anytime. We're having chicken sandwiches and refreshments," he said.

The agency will also hold a drawing for a flat screen TV, plus other give-aways.

Don and Jodi Brauen will host a fall open house for Brauen's Gourds on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 2 and 3.

The open house is at their farm at 7140 Tom Fett Road, Bluffton. Hours are:
• Saturday, Sept. 2 - 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Sunday, Sept. 3 - 1 to 4 p.m.

The Fifth Annual Regional Auto Growth Summit will be held Friday, Sept. 8, in the Keese Hall Multipurpose Center at Rhodes State College, 4240 College Drive, Lima. This year’s theme is:  Transportation:  Driving Employment.

 

The event begins at 9 a.m. with registration and networking. The program will start at 9:30 a.m. and include these featured speakers:

·         Kim Braun, CEO of Braun Industries, Van Wert

·         Bernard Swiecki and Kristin Dziczek of the Center for Automotive Research (CAR), Ann Arbor, Michigan

The Bluffton Fire Department would like to thank everyone who came out and made our Summerfest Fundraiser at Southgate Lanes a great success. 

Without the support of the local businesses that sponsored corn hole boards for the tournament, those that participated in the silent auctions, enjoyed the pulled pork dinners and stayed into the evening for great music and fun, the fundraiser would not have been as big of a success. 

Ronald K. "Ron" Chidester, 78, of Millbury, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital. Ron was born on Oct. 6, 1938, in Bluffton, Ohio, to Kenneth and Pauline (Eikenbury) Chidester. He married Glenna Myer on Oct. 5, 1957. Ron served  in the United States Navy.

Ron was  a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association.

Ron graduated from The Ohio State University.
