Takes place from 1 to 10 p.m. at Southgate Lanes

A benefit event for the Bluffton Fire Department is set for Saturday, Aug. 19, at Southgate Lanes, 9700 Dixie Highway, according to Jon Kin, fire chief.

Here’s a schedule of events:

1 p.m. – Double elimination corn hole tournament – limited for 30 teams, $20 per team registration fee, cash prizes for top three teams, business sponsorships available.

To sign up your team call the village office at 419-358-2066, extension 292, Southgate Lanes at 419-258-6966, or any member of the fire department.

Several items on Monday's council agenda

Several items are on Monday’s Bluffton council agenda. These include consideration of:

• First reading of ordinance creating licensing and regulation of mobile food providers in the village

• Final reading of resolution calling for demolition and removal of a structure at 145 W. Riley St.

• Ordinance setting pay ranges for members of the police department

• Shannon Cemetery update – the first tombstone will be returned to the cemetery

• Update on filling in village park pond

• Report on 2017 sidewalk program summary

Amber Patterson, MD, has joined ENT & Allergy Specialists of Northwest Ohio, 1110 West Main Cross St., in Findlay. Dr. Patterson specializes in treating allergies dealing with the environment, food, venom and penicillin. She also specializes in allergic asthma, hives and recurrent infections.

But you need to register and wear special viewing glasses provided by the library

Bluffton Public Library is ready for the eclipse of our lifetime.

The big event of the summer is from 1:01 to 3:50 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21.

John George, Bluffton High School chemistry teacher, will be on site, ready to answer questions and offer guidance as the eclipse happens.

Advance registration is required and all participaants must wear the special eclipse viewing glasses that will be provided.

And as a warm-up to the eclipse at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 15, program for all ages on the solar system is planned in the library's lower level.

Here's next week's ODOT road closing list

The Ohio Department of Transportation provided the Icon with Bluffton-Beaverdam road closings and road construction updates for next week They follow:

Monday, Aug. 14 - Napoleon Road on the south side of state Route 309 will be closed.
Wednesday, Aug. 16 – Pevee Road on the north side of state Route 309 will be closed.

We don't know today's pool temperatures, but the sign at the pool indicates that the water's fine - just jump in.
