Bluffton middle school principal Kyle Leatherman

Bluffton Middle School principal, Kyle Leatherman, shared his talent on Friday morning at the middle school year-end talent show.

He wasn’t even on the program.

And the end of the show, to Leatherman’s surprise, it was announced that he was named Ohio Middle Level Association (OMLA) “Educator of the Year.”

Attending the presentation was Jay Clark, president of OMLA and principal of Van Buren Middle. Also attending was is wife, Jill, and their three children, Kooper, Macy and Parker.

Bluffton Middle School students shared the stage on Friday morning for the school talent show.

It was a packed house of students and parents and grandparents. Here, Jasmine Whitlow sings "Loyal," as the closing number. She received a standing ovation.

Finals for most events are today

One Bluffton High School boys' track team advanced to the state track meet - so far.

Finals for most regional events, held at Tiffin, take place today.

The finals for the boys 4 x 800 relay is completed and the BHS team of Isaac Andreas, senior, Luke Young, sophomore, Baylor Garmatter, freshman, and Christopher Harnish, junior, finished fourth to qualify for the state meet.

First - Eastwood, 8:12.50
Second - Montplier, 8:13.5
Third - Riverdale, 8:16.31
Fourth - Bluffton, 8:17.04

S.H.A.N.N.O.N. Service Club of Bluffton announces the winners of its “Service To Humanity” scholarship awards.

Award winners are Bluffton High School seniors Andie Schmutz, Jayme Siefer and Douglas Nester. Each student received an $800 scholarship.

Andie Schmutz is the daughter of Joan Casey and Todd Schmutz. She plans to attend Rhodes State College, studying medicine to hopes to become a nurse practitioner.

Jayme Siefer is the daughter of Carol Siefer and plans to attend the University of Toledo.           

It was perfect day to take a walk. The Icon passed Andy Armstrong with his elementary class looking at trees on the university campus at Kibler-Bentley and Campus View. Then, turning around the Icon walked on the new bike-pathway into Parkview Development. The pathway will eventually connect all the way to Main Street from this point.

Monday, June 5, is Library Fun Day.

It kicks off a two-month summer reading program at Bluffton Public Library.

"Every summer, the library’s goal is to encourage people of all ages to learn and grow throughout every stage of their lives. This summer’s theme is Build a Better World," said Jessica Hermiller, library director.

The events foster the theme to Build a Better World and are open to all library patrons of all ages.
