Yesterday the Icon posted a photo of some of the members of the Bluffton HS girls' track team at the start of a warm-up race. Today we show some of the boys' team in the same warm-up.
Bluffton and Van Buren split a doublehead earlier this week. The Pirates won the opener 6-3, and VB the nightcap 12-2.
In the opener, Dakota Bricker (1-1) was the winning pitcher. He had two singles as did Bowden. Myers had a base hit and a double. Phillips had a double.
In the second game Branden Edwards, Cole Fruchey and Brice Rayle each had singles.
Bluffton next traveled to Arcadia and won 6-3. Matt Bowden (1-1) was the winning pitcher. The win moved BHS to 3-2 overall.
The Bluffton HS girls’ softball team remained unbeaten after pounding Elida 8-1 and Arcadia 3-2 earlier this week. Both games were on the road and BHS is now 3-0 overall.
Elida summary
Libby Schaadt was the winning pitcher. Top hitters for BHS were Abbie Parkins, Averey Rumer, Jazmynn Wilson, Katie Prater, Alivia Koenig and Brinkley Garmatter.
Arcadia summary
Schaadt moved to 3-0 with the win. Wilson, Prater, Edwards, Parkins and Rumer had hits in the victory.
The Bluffton High School boys’ tennis team continues on its winning streak blanking Defiance 5-0 and perennial tennis power Lima Central Catholic by the same score.
Bluffton University will recognize its top student-athletes at the annual Athletics Awards Forum at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, in Yoder Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Two awards will be presented. Bluffton’s top senior male athlete will receive the A.C. Burcky Award, while the top senior female athlete will receive the Kathryn E. Little Award.
Mike DeCourcy, college basketball columnist at Sporting News, will speak at the awards ceremony.
