“No matter where you are from, we’re glad you’re our neighbor."
It’s a simple message in three languages – printed on a sign that first appeared in October at the Immanuel Mennonite Church in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
The signs are now located in many communities around the country, including Bluffton.
According to Pastor Matthew Bucher of the Harrisonburg church, the message was a statement born out of Mennonite belief.
"This is a symbol of Jesus' command to love your neighbor," he says. "And as followers of Jesus, we follow someone who was himself a refugee."

Valentine's Week generally projects images of snow and winter coats. Not so the Valentine's Week of 2017. Here's a common sight in Bluffton this month. It's a biker on a dry sidewalk with no snow in sight. This scene in on the university campus near Riley Court.
Like many Icon viewers, Victoria Zeits of the Gardeners of Bluffton and Pandora says that the crazy winter weather makes her feeel that either winter has yet to begin or she should instead be watching for spring bulbs to start blooming.
She says that she's visited her herb garden and observed 14 green things coming up that should be under a couple inches of snow.
Despite the weather, there are several opportunities for gardeners to get moving in anticipation of spring.
