Sarah Thompson, executive director of Christian Peacemaker Teams, will address the Bluffton University graduating class during the May 8 ceremony in the Sommer Center.
Thompson was named the executive director of CPT in Jan. 2014. She travels extensively for the organization to build partnerships to transform violence and oppression. Thompson has also worked in the international peace movement as a public speaker and community organizer.
In addition to commencement there are several additional on campus weekend events.
The Blanchard River Watershed Partnership is currently involved in two Riley Creek projects, according to Phil Martin, director.
• The BRWP has two Great Lakes Basin grants in the Allen County portion of Lower Riley Creek and in Middle Riley Creek watersheds this year. Both grants are for Best Management Practices with the farmers. Martin said that there is still funding available and persons with questions should call him
• BRWP will conduct water quality monitoring during late June and September.
Shanon Hauenstein of Bluffton is among 12 graduating apprentices of the Lima Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee honored with a dinner at Casa Lu Al on Saturday, May 7.
The graduates have undergone a five year apprenticeship program consisting of both classroom instruction and on-the-job training to learn the skills required to become master craftsmen.
The Pandora United Methodist Church will be hosting a free Community Meal on Wednesday, May 25, from 5:3007 p.m. in the church fellowship hall, 108 E. Washington Street, Pandora. The meal this month is provided by Lita Siefker and Scott and Jen Mershman. The menu is vegetable soup, crackers, peanut butter sandwich, cheesy-garlic biscuits, cornbread, pudding dessert and beverage.
