"The Bluffton Senior Center is starting a new tradition," Tonya Meyer, director, told the Icon.

With the help from Signature Health Services, the Senior Center hosts it's first ever Cookie Walk on Saturday, Dec. 15, from 9 a.m. until noon.

"The idea of a cookie walk is to have a wide variety of cookies available to purchase.  The buyer can walk in with a little money and walk out with 12 different cookies or six of one kind, two of another and four of another." said Meyer.

Carlin Carpenter says that when he was growing up in Nelsonville, Ohio, he wanted to become the best squirrel hunter in Athens County.

Somewhere along the way he became a football coach and Bluffton is a much more interesting place to live because of his change in career choices.

 

Bluffton University’s Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR), an educational program for retirees, is offering several classes led by local residents on Wednesdays, Jan. 23-Feb. 27, in the Kreider Room in Marbeck Center.

The winter term costs $60, which allows participants to take as many classes as they wish and to join in other ILR activities. The fee is due at the time of registration.

Phil Shank and his Patriot Concrete crew completed a fairly large and deep cement job prior to The Icon photographer arriving on the scene at the new Wendy's on State Route 103. While the cement hardens, the green machine is holding in place the base of what will become the Wendy's sign. Shank said that two loads of cement went into the project. The base will enable the sign to withstand winds of over 90 miles per hour. Watch the Icon for details on Wendy's opening day.

The Bluffton McDonald's will be hosting jolly ol' St. Nick on Wednesday, Dec. 19, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Kids of all ages can get their photo taken with Santa.  McDonald's is also providing ornaments and crafts for kids.  

 

Constance "Connie" Kay Rettig, 67, of Rawson passed away at 8:40 p.m. on
Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay.

Connie was born on October 9, 1945, to the late Ralph and Irene (Myers) Bond in Findlay. Connie married Philip C. Rettig on November 23, 1963, and he survives.
