7 to 9 a.m. Ash Wednesday, March 6, downtown Bluffton

From 7 to 9 a.m. on Ash Wednesday, March 6, a group of Bluffton area pastors will offer “Ashes to Go,” a new approach to a centuries-old Christian tradition, according to Rev. Karol Farris, pastor of Bluffton Presbyterian Church.

Ashes to Go are offered because the reminders of need, humility, and healing shouldn’t be confined to church buildings.

The Bluffton Powerlifters participated in a meet in Bradford on Feb 23. Here are their individual lifting results:

Elizabeth Bourassa:

185 Squat, 115 Bench, 225 Deadlift - 1st place in her weight class

Ivy Augsburger:

160 Squat, 90 Bench, 230 Deadlift - 5th place in her weight class

Shyanne Mortimer: 

225 Squat,140 Bench, 325 Deadlift - 1st place in her weight class

Morgan Nusbaum:

225 Squat, 140 Bench, 320 Deadlift - 3rd place in her weight class

Elizabeth Swisher:

145 Squat, 100 Bench, 200 Deadlift

Friday at 7 p.m. at ONU Observatory

FROM ADA ICON - The ONU Astronomy Club welcomes Ada and the surrounding communities to the ONU Observatory on Friday, March 1, for a "Greatest Elongation of Mercury" event.

The word "Elongation" refers to the angular separation between Mercury and the Sun. Since Mercury's orbit remains closer to the Sun than the Earth, it can never be farther than about 28 degrees from the Sun.

This week, Mercury will be at its maximum elongation on the east side of the Sun.

Wedding and event venue northeast of Ada opened last fall

Crimson Lane, 4600 County Road 1, Ada, will hold a spring open house from 3 to 7 p.m., Sunday, March 31.

The wedding and event venue northeast of Ada was opened in the fall by owners Mike and Jodi Willeke.

The venue has proved popular with over 60 weddings already booked. Crimson Lane also hosts events such as weddings, anniversaries, reunions, birthday parties, graduation parties, showers and business conferences and meetings. It is be open year round.

BFR's Spring Session 1 goes to March 29

Bluffton Family Recreation is accepting registrations for adult Group X classes this week, according to Daniel Tinch, BFR executive director.

The Spring Session 1 runs from Monday, March 4, to Friday, March 29. Go online at www.bfronline.com to register for any class or contact BFR, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton, 419-358-4150.

“BFR offers a variety of programs and fitness-based classes for members and non-members,” said Tinch.
