May 6 filing deadline for mayoral and council independent candidates; Aug. 7 deadline for school board, township trustees candidates

Filing deadlines in early February reveal the appearance of the May 7, 2019, Ohio primary election. Here’s the ballot for voters in the Bluffton school district.

• Bluffton Exempted Village School District
­­Income Tax renewal 0.5%, Permanent improvements, 3 years

• Bluffton Exempted Village School District
Levy renewal 4.244 Mills, avoiding an operating deficit, 5 years

• Allen County RTA
Sales and Use Tax additional 0.1%, Providing Transportation Service, 10 years

Ramp at SR 103 northbound will close

Guardrail, bridge work to affect Interstate 75 at Bluffton this week. The ramp at state Route 103 northbound will close for a time during the work.

Interstate 75 and state Route 103, Bluffton, will be affected as follows. Work is being performed by the ODOT roadway services department:

• I-75 southbound at state Route 103 will be restricted to one lane through the work zone during guardrail repair on Wednesday, Feb. 27.

You've started to notice orange post sprouting up on Bluffton streets. Here's an example on Vance Street. Brenneman Excavating is rehabilitating 26 manholes around town. Additional manhole covers may be added later. The rehabilitation consist of new frames and covers along with rebuilding bottoms and a lining to create a water tight structure. This is one of the many phases the village is taking to eliminate inflow and infiltration into its wastewater system, according to Bryan Lloyd, assistant village administrator

Tj Mill and Brianna Gillig

Two women from Bluffton University earned All-Heartland Conference honors when the hardware was delivered following the 2018-19 season. Junior Tj Mills(Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne) and Brianna Gillig (New Riegel) were both recognized by the HCAC coaches for their work on the hardcourt.

Mills led the Beavers with 14.8 PPG, 95 assists and 50 steals. She collected Second Team All-HCAC recognition after earning honorable mention last season and HCAC Freshman of the Year honors following the 2016-17 campaign.

Club closure party after 63 years of continuous gardening enjoyment

Past and present members of the Bluffton Garden Study Club are invited to it closure party after 63 years of continuous gardening enjoyment. 

"We will be gathering at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in the Patio Room at Maple Crest," said Jenny Pilarowski.

There will be “garden” cake refreshments to enjoy as well as a display of minutes, treasurer’s reports and past program booklets plus any of your own mementoes you would like to share.

Arrangements have been made to archive the records of the organization at the Bluffton Public Library.
