Pirate bowlers 5-2

BLUFFTON – The Bluffton High School bowling team has enjoyed a solid inaugural season under head coach Ben Nye.
The Pirate varsity squad is 5-2, while the JV team is 2-2. The roster is comprised of 14 boys and two girls.
The Pirate rollers finished third at the Ridgedale Baker tournament with 3,065 pins to open the season November 16.
On Nov. 26, the varsity lost 2,713-2,411 at Lima Senior. The JV beat the Spartan reserves with 1,578 pins.
On December 6 at home, Bluffton beat the LCC varsity 2,470-1,602.
The Pirates finished sixth in the 10-game preliminary pool round at the 12-team Kenton Holiday Baker Series tournament at Hillcrest Lanes Dec. 30. Bluffton averaged 164.7 pins per game in the 10-game pool play round.
The Pirates then lost 2-1 in the eight-team quarterfinals to Minster, averaging 157 in the three-game set. Host Kenton won the tournament title.
Bluffton won at Delphos Jefferson 2,768-2,157 on January 13. The Pirates then triumphed at Kenton 2,741-2,589 to improve to 4-2.
The Wildcat JV narrowly beat the Pirate reserves by 23 pins, 1,962-1,939.
On January 17 at home, Bluffton defeated Rossford 2,547-2,175. The Pirates also won a close JV match, 1,246-1,219.
Bluffton hosts North Baltimore January 24.
