Pirate Shank 1-2 at state wrestling meet
Sophomore posts 41-11 record

COLUMBUS – Bluffton sophomore Mason Shank wrestled in the Div. III state tournament at the Schottenstein Center on the campus of Ohio State University Friday and Saturday, March 7-8.
The Pirate heavyweight posted a 1-2 record and advanced to day two of the OHSAA tournament before being eliminated.
He ended his season with a fine record of 41-11.
In the first round of the 285 lbs. bracket Friday, Shank met the top seed in his quarter of the 16-man draw. Undefeated Dalton senior Cohen Riggenbach narrowly beat Shank in a tight 2-1 decision to drop the Pirate into the consolation bracket.
In his first round consolation match, Shank pinned Nelsonville-York junior Will Odenbach in a tiebreaker after the seven-minute bout was even following overtime.
Competition resumed Saturday morning. In the second consolation round, Shank was eliminated by Graham Local sophomore Wyatt Kaemmerer in an 8-3 decision.
