MEDIA RELEASE__A panel of Bluffton University faculty and staff who were first-generation college students will present a Forum titled “Why College?” at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13, in Yoder Recital Hall. 

Panelists Tami Forbes, Autumn Graves ’21, Darricle Jones and Carter Ritchey ’25 will reflect on how earning their bachelor’s degrees shaped their lives and careers. Drawing from personal experience, the panel will explore access to higher education, the challenges first-generation students face and the lasting impact of a college education. 

Darlene M. Arnold, 87, passed away on January 8, 2026, at Willow Ridge - Betty House, Bluffton.

There will be no local visitation or service.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

FINDLAY__The visiting Bluffton bowling teams split a dual match at Findlay on Thursday, January 8 at Sportsman Lanes.

The Pirate boys won their match convincingly by a score of 2,383 pins to 2,031.

“Solid performance by the Pirate boys,” said Bluffton head bowling coach Ben Nye. “After game one, we were struggling a bit, but I felt like they were very close to putting together a good team game.

BLUFFTON__The Bluffton High School girls basketball team lost to visiting Northwest Conference foe Crestview 51-44 on Thursday, January 8.

The Pirate girls dropped to 8-6 overall and 1-1 in NWC play after the home defeat. 

Crestview improved to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the NWC with the road upset win. 

Other than the second quarter, Bluffton was outscored only 37-35.

Bluffton's America 250 committee is hosting a hymn-sing celebration on Sunday, January 11, featuring music known and performed in the late 1700s. Committee member Dan Basinger has created music books for participants.

The music "connects us with history," says committee member Pat Rodabaugh; "We are still united through music" with people who lived at the time of our nation's founding.
