Allen County Public Health now has all vaccine boosters available at their vaccine clinics. The FDA and CDC have authorized a single booster dose for the three COVID-19 vaccines available in the United States–Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson–to strengthen protection against serious outcomes from COVID-19. Individuals are now able to get a booster of either vaccine regardless of which brand was used for their primary series of shots. Eligibility is as follows:

If you received a Pfizer or Moderna series you can get a booster 6 months after your primary series if you are:

James E. King, 76, of Cairo, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 5:00 a.m. at Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton. He was born on January 27, 1945 in Lima to the late Milton and Marjorie {Keith} King. On May 10, 1975, he married Karen Sanders, who survives him in Cairo.

Danny E. Ballinger, 66, of Pandora passed away October 21, 2021 at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay. There will be no visitation or service.  Arrangements are under the direction of Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

The Bluffton boys soccer team swamped visiting Old Fort 8-0 in Div. III sectional final play Saturday afternoon, October 23, at Steinmetz Field.

With the win, the top-seeded Pirates improved their record to 12-3-2. Bluffton was ranked ninth in the latest Div. III state poll.

Senior Jude Spallinger and Bryan Zimmerman each scored two goals to pace the blowout win over the 12th-seeded Stockaders.

Spallinger netted the first two goals at the one and four-minute marks.

The Bluffton girls cross country team competed well in the Div. III district meet at Columbus Grove Saturday, October 23.

Lady Pirate freshman June Essinger crossed the line a strong eighth in the girls race with a time of 20:19.4. She qualified for the regional meet in Tiffin next Saturday with the high finish.

Pirate sophomore Amairi Painter ended up 24th in 22:08.6.

Freshman Mackay Tuttle came home shortly after her in 26th with a time of 22:16.7.

The Bluffton boys country team competed well in the Div. III district meet at Columbus Grove Saturday, October 23. (See separate story for girls results.)

Pirate junior Landon Armstrong finished second and classmate Erik Nygaard came in third to give the Bluffton boys second place in the district meet team results.

Armstrong finished with a time of 16:42.1, with Nygaard six seconds behind at 16:48.4.

The top four teams and top 16 individuals advance to regionals.

Trent Koch of Columbus Grove won the 78-runner boys race in 16:36.6.
