Hannah Chappell-Dick trains on the Bluffton University track

Hannah Chappell-Dick remembers with clarity the first race she competed in. It was a half-mile race, which she thought meant she would run down the field and back. She laughed when she remembers learning it was actually a little further than that. Running at the front of the pack, her time was 3:58 and she placed sixth overall - boys and girls included.

The Bluffton University women's soccer team advanced to its first-ever Heartland Conference tournament final match with a 3-2 win over #1 seed Earlham College this afternoon.

They will travel to #2 seed Hanover College for the finals at 1 PM on Saturday, Nov. 5. The winner of that match earns an automatic berth to the NCAA Regional tournament which starts next week.

Kim Keck was named the Mennonite Memorial Home employee of the month for November.

Keck has been a cook at Maple Crest for ten years. She is well known for the wonderful cookies she bakes. Keck is a team player that always offers to help her fellow employees as well as her supervisor. She is a dedicated employee that always goes above and beyond her expectations. She is well liked by fellow staff and enjoys her interaction with the residents. Congratulations Kim!

Don't lose your head!

The Curling Iron's message is clear: Don't lose your head over a bad hair day. This is Halloween window display for the Main Street shop.

Bluffton Senior Citizens' annual meeting on Nov. 14 will honor members who died since the 2010 annual meeting. The meeting will also include an election of new board members, plus include a catered dinner with entertainment of some Western style square dancing.

Reservations for the dinner are required by Wednesday, Nov. 7. The meeting is at 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 14, at the Center on Main Street.

The Bluffton Icon's newest advertiser, Sielschott, Walsh, Keifer & Regula CPAs, Inc., is soon to be Main Street Bluffton's newest business.

The Lima-based CPA firm will open an office in the former Little Red Barn, 113 N. Main St., on Dec. 1. The Little Red Barn flower shop has relocated.
